Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you so much for supporting our Fayre on Friday! You have been amazing in supporting us, either by volunteering and doing so much beforehand, by sending in gifts and prizes, by baking cakes or cooking samosas or by attending on the day!

Thank you also to parents Mr and Mrs Barber (R and N Inflatable Hire) for the free loan of the bouncy castle and to Mr Parker for his music. I’d also like to thank staff for all of their help beforehand and with running stalls.

We know that children love the event so, as well as raising money, we try to make the Fayre as much fun as possible for everyone and the sunny weather helped to make it a lovely day. I’m really pleased to say that the Fayre raised a total of £1,110.00 which is a significant amount! Thank you. The money will go towards our Chromebook fund and also towards other items such as play equipment. We’ll let you know how the money is spent.

This week is STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and as well as having a Science and Maths focus with activities and visitors , children will also learn about a famous scientist or inventor in each of their classes.

Lunchtime French Club is cancelled today. This club is proving to be very popular, I’m pleased to say.

Today is the last Netball Club session.

Later today, at 6.00pm, we are holding a parent meeting for our new Nursery intake in September. This meeting will be held in the Nursery. If you are joining us for that meeting, please do not bring your child with you because it is a parent meeting where you will have the chance to ask any questions or complete registration forms.

On Tuesday morning, we are being visited by the NSPCC, who will be giving presentations to all children from Reception upwards.

Also on Tuesday:

  • Parent Governor Mr David Philips, will be talking to children in Years 5 and 6 about his job as a Software Engineer.
  • Children in RS will be visiting Glenmore Residential Home as part of our intergenerational project.
  • A brief parent meeting will be held at 3.00pm to chat to parents about the change in door routines etc, for children moving from Reception to Year 1. Miss Spray will be leading this talk. We started these talks a few years ago in response to a parent request so I hope that it is helpful for you.

On Wednesday, the librarian Sian Jones, will be talking to children in assembly about the Library Summer Reading Project at the main library in John Frost Square. Membership of the library is free, so if you don’t have a card, just go along with proof of your address to join.

Also, Mr Tegelbeckers, will be bringing in his 3D printer to show children in Classes 5M and 4J and Mr Couch

will be visiting Class 3P to talk to them about jobs in engineering.

The third of our Nursery Family Learning Workshops continues on Wednesday and will run with from 9.15-12.30pm and 12.45-2.00pm. Please join us for this if you can.

Thursday is Maths Day. Mrs Couch is running a Family Learning Maths Workshop from 9.00-10.30am when you will be able to do a maths activity with your child and she will also be running a catch-up session from 5.00-6.00pm for any parent who missed the first Maths Workshop last term.

Parents are invited to join us for a ‘Join-in’ Maths Session at 3.00pm on Thursday when you can play a maths game with your child.

Please note that Multiskills Club has finished.

On Friday, Class RD have their first class assembly. It starts at 10.15am. I hope that you can join us for this.

Later on Friday, at 2.00pm, we are holding a parent and child ‘Join-In’ Science Session. Again, I hope that you will be able to join us for this. Year 6 pupils are having a transition visit to their high school on Friday so, if there is demand, we may be able to run an additional session.

We would like to run a taking apart Tech Team and testing session soon so if you have any old electrical items or toys that could be unscrewed or taken apart safely, please send them in.

Retirement and Staff Changes for September 2019

As you are aware, Mrs Couch will be retiring at the end of this school year. Also joining Mrs Couch in retirement will be three other very long-serving members of staff and these are Mrs Abbas, Mrs Fowler and Mrs Parkinson.

All four have made such a very significant contribution to the life of our school but, as much as we are very sad to see them go, this is their next step and the start of a lovely new phase for them. We will mark their retirement in school and we will be holding a special assembly on the last Wednesday to celebrate their time with us. I thought that you would want to know in advance though.
