Dear Parent/Carer,

Apologies for the delay in sending this letter out. We’re having problems with Schoop.

Congratulations to all of the children across the school who have taken part in such lovely Christmas performances over the last two weeks! Their passionate singing always takes our breath away! The way that they conducted themselves on the stage and benches was excellent and I’m so proud of everyone! 😉

Well done also to the choir who took part in a special Royal Foundation Christmas Concert at Newport Cathedral a fortnight ago! This was one of only twelve special concerts taking place across the country and it was hosted by The Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE. It was an honour to have been asked to perform as well as Gaer Primary School, whose violin class performed so well.

The choir sang beautifully and it was lovely to have so many parents and carers joining us! 😊

Each child taking part, and their siblings, was given a lovely present by the Cathedral, and Dr Gibbins has sent a lovely message congratulating the choir, and Mrs Parry who leads them, on their performance.

We had more community singing last week, when Y3/4 children sang at St Woolos Hospital, and also when Y5/6 children sang to members of Sight Cymru (a charity for the visually impaired). As well as chocolate treats for the children who sang, Sight Cymru very kindly gave the school a donation of £60, which we will use to buy some resources for visually impaired pupils.

Thank You

Thank you for so generously supporting the Give Something Up Collection on Friday! We raised the really good total of

£285.67 and this will be given to Save the Children who are supporting humanitarian aid in Gaza. Children wrote really lovely messages on their cards and these are all in a bowl near the main office, so that children can read them.

This Week

Nursery had their parties today and they had a very special visit from Father Christmas. We’re hoping that he will be able to join us tomorrow for our school Party Day. Thank you in advance for sending items in. Food will be shared so please don’t worry if you are only able to send in a small amount or it it’s difficult for you at the moment to provide anything.

We will have discos in the morning for both age groups with Rockarola Disco, and then in the afternoon, classes will have party games and we will hopefully have a very special visitor again!

Children can wear their party clothes.

We’re having Christmas Jumper and Toy Day on Thursday so, after our Christmas Assembly, children will be able to play with toys and games that they have brought it but please don’t send in anything electronic such as tablets or remote controlled cars just in case they got broken.

We always try to support a charity special to us at this time of year and staff donate money instead of giving Christmas cards. The charity we are supporting this week is the Noah’s Ark Appeal in support of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital at The University Hospital of Wales, who helped Mehtab and his family so very much earlier in the year.

On Christmas Jumper Day (Thursday) you are welcome to send in a donation if you’d like to, but there’s no obligation to do so. Please send your child in a Christmas jumper or something festive anyway though – children don’t need to wear their uniforms.

Also on Thursday, RB Inflatables (run by parents Mr and Mrs Barber), are donating the use of a bouncy castle for the Nursery and younger children will also get the chance to use it.

Huge thanks to Mr and Mrs Barber who also support us so generously at Christmas and in the summer!

The School and Nursery breaks up on Thursday for the Christmas Holidays. The new terms starts on Monday 8th January.

Finally

I’d like to wish you a very happy Christmas and send you every good wish for the new year!

Very kind regards,
H Vaughan
