Dear Parent,

This is a fairly brief letter today but I just wanted to let you know what’s happening this week.

As you know, the inspection started today with the arrival of the inspectors. They will be visiting classes tomorrow and on Wednesday. Their last day will be on Thursday.

I will be unable to let you know the result of the inspection for a few weeks because it has to be confirmed by Estyn, who are the Schools’ Inspectorate for Wales. I will let you know as soon as I can though.

We were joined this morning for our assembly by Mrs Bone and Mr Gallivan from the TSB in town. They came to see what happened to the prizes that they gave us for our attendance box and they have promised to return to visit us again.

All clubs are running as usual this week.

Dragons Rugby is on Tuesday with Class 5/6P.

On Thursday there is a Parent Coffee Morning with Mrs Angharad Fells who is a teacher from the Specific Learning Difficulty Service.

She works with children who have specific difficulties in Literacy and Numeracy, so if you would like to drop in and have a chat with her and other parents any time between 9.00am and 10.00am in the library, you are welcome to. We’ll have some nice biscuits as well!

Nursery Number and Play takes place again on Friday morning from 9.15-11.15am and in the afternoon from 1.00 to 3.00pm. It was good to see so many of you last week. If you would like to join us for the first time on Friday, you are welcome to do so.

Inspection Questionnaires

Thank you for returning these yellow questionniares. The comments were very helpful and I am sharing all of them with the inspectors.

It was interesting that two parents commented about the doors for Y1/2 classes because these have been a dilemma for us for a while. We need to dismiss children to parents directly because we are in the city centre near a busy road and, as you know, we have tried a number of different doorways and systems over the year. Increased numbers of pupils have put further pressure on these exits.

However, now that both Reception classes are using the Reception door to go home, this means that the infant side door is free. We tried using this last week and it was helpful. I realise that one or two of you may have been unhappy that you had to go to another door but I hope that you will understand that all the time we have to try and ensure that children can leave safely and also be seen clearly by everyone.

The inspectors will also see this newsletter so they will know about the change.

At the next Parent Focus Group after half term, it will be good to continue discussion on this if necessary.

Bonus Ball

We have a winner for the bonus ball at last! Congratulations to Mrs martin in the office!

Yours sincerely,
