Dear Parent/Carer,

Clubs

Netball has now finished. However, a five week after-school Cricket Club, which is run by Newport Live, will start soon on a Wednesday and a separate letter will be sent out to pupils eligible for this when we have more information.

Fun Run

The Foundation Phase Pink Fun Run in aid of St David’s Foundation will now take place this Wednesday. Children have been sent a separate letter about this.

Class 1D/J Class Assembly.

This is on Friday and will start at 9.15am. I hope that you will be able to join us for this.

Tate Modern Exhibition

We have been successful in obtaining a ‘Go and See’ grant from The Arts Council of Wales to enable us to organise a coach to visit the Tate Modern in London this Saturday. Letters for application for places have been sent to pupils who took part in the Football Fever and Hungry Heroes projects. This is such an incredible opportunity for all the pupils who took part and a great honour for them and the school.

Class 2MS and 1D/J

Miss Spearey has commenced her maternity leave and her class are now being taught by Miss Pretty and Mrs Jones, who are sharing the role and who know the children very well.

As a result, there is a change also to the organisation of Class 1DJ. Miss Driscoll will teach the class on her extra Thursday afternoon and on the Friday they will be taught by Miss Uddin.

In making these changes I have ensured that staff who know and understand the children well are working with them during this period of change. In both classes children have settled well. If you have any questions about this, however, you are more than welcome to contact me.

National Tests

The National Tests in Reading and Numeracy take place from Wednesday May 2nd until Wednesday May 9th, with two days afterwards for catching up.

Attendance and Punctuality

The side door opens at 8.45am. Please continue to ensure that your child enters the school through the side door in the morning because this means that they are on time. Any child entering though the front door is late. As a school, we have to do all we can to reduce lateness in the morning and, if

the situation doesn’t improve, we will be liaising with our Education

    Welfare Officer, Mrs Haigh.

Operasonic

Last year children took part in the ‘Newport Legends’ Operasonic project which resulted in a perfomance at The Riverfront. I’m really pleased to let you know that this opera project has been nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Sociey Award and we send our congratulations to all in Operasonic.

Outstanding Dinner Money

Unfortunately I have to remind parents again to pay off outstanding dinner money.

If your child would like a school meal, then you need to credit their Parentpay/Paypoint account BEFORE the day they are ordering the meal.

If your child’s account is not in credit by next week, then Chartwells may refuse to order meals for them and you will be asked to bring in a packed lunch for them.

Please speak to me as soon as possible if you will be unable to make any payment for  money owing.

Thank you very much to those parents who have paid  their outstanding dinner money.

Diary Dates

A new Diary Dates sheet for the summer term and topic letters accompany this newsletter.
