Dear Parent/Carer,

Well done to Class 1/2Vs for such an informative assembly about Mexico! It was great also to see so many family members supporting children in Class 1/2VS. Thank you ☺

Thank you to everyone who brought in their baby or toddler for our Nursery Baby Day last week!

The Year 5 Swimming Course is going really well! Children are trying really hard and are making good progress.

Mr Brown, from Milittlepad, worked with Class  5/6W.

Tuesday is Internet Safety Day.

Our digital leaders will be taking our assembly and giving children lots of information about keeping safe online. Please look at our Twitter account also for useful information @StWoolosPrimary

We will be running some parent internet safety update meetings which will be very helpful for you. I’ll confirm dates as soon as I am able to.

On Wednesday, Class 4/5B are visiting Newport Museum and Art Gallery for a Creative Writing workshop.

Thank you to Y1 parents who joined in with our Y1 Reading Café last week! The second one is running again on Thursday at 2.45pm.

Backpacks

Please remember my reminder in last week’s newsletter about not bringing in backpacks because we don’t have anywhere to put them.

Our PE bags are fine because the drawstrings strings hang from lower coat pegs that we have had fitted beneath the coats so that everything can fit in. (The drawstrings also help these bags work as fitness bags which can be carried on the back.)

Menu change this week

Please be aware that Tuesday’s meal will be pizza and Wednesday’s meal will be sausage and mash for this week only due to Chartwells’ supplier issues.

Clubs

We are very lucky because a number of staff volunteer to run clubs after school and this helps children to access a wide range of additional activities. However, these clubs are not childcare. We do not charge for these sessions because they are voluntary activities that staff offer to run for the benefit of your child.

Whilst the majority of parents understand this and collect their child punctually (which we appreciate),  in a few instances, a few parents have been repeatedly late to collect their child from school because of other commitments they have made and this is not fair.

It is very important that children are collected promptly by 4.30pm (or 4.15pm for Cookery Club).

If you repeatedly collect your child late from clubs your child will be unable to attend a club.

(Where there is an emergency, please ring the school. There will always be someone in school to take your call.)

Attendance

The class with the best attendance last week was Class  5/6P.

We are currently below the Welsh Government target of 95% .

Thank you to those parents especially who are mindful of the need to develop good attendance behaviours in their child in preparation for the expectations of high school and the world of work.

Dairy Dates

Class 4/5B have changed the date of their assembly to Friday 16th February.

Future dates:

                                     Break up for half term

Monday 26th Feb  –  INSET Day (School and nursery closed)

Tuesday 27th Feb  – School and Nursey open

Governors

Welcome to our two new Governors:

Councillor Tracey Holyoake  (Local Authority appointment)

Mrs Ceri Meloy (Community Governor)

Categorisation

Many of you will, by now, have seen the catagorisation notice which was published by the Welsh Government last week.

I am very pleased that we have remained ‘Green’ for the third year running. We were in the very first group of Green schools and whilst other schools have now joined this group,  it is lovely to acknowledge everything that you can be proud of.

The ‘Green’ rating is a reflection of the standards of teaching, learning and behaviour in the school together with school management. School management isn’t just the Senior Leadership Team, but is applied to all members of staff who identify and manage areas for progress and it also reflects the strength of our Governing Body whose work is part of the management of our school.

You can be confident that all staff and Governors will continue to work together as hard as possible, to secure the very best for your child in all aspects of their life at school.

Bonus Ball

There is a roll over this week.

Yours sincerely,

H L Vaughan
