Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you had a lovely Easter break!

Eid Mubarak to all of our families who are celebrating Eid this week!

We started off this week with our half termly Early Bird Attendance Draw. We had lots of children getting fridge magnets for 100% attendance for the last half term! Well done to everyone!

Congratulations also to Hebib Maliqaj and Ben Stowe-Burke, who each won a £5.00 gift card for the phase Early Bird Draw.

We were joined in our attendance assembly by Steve, our Gwent Dragons coach, who was working this morning with Class 1/2AB.

Thus afternoon, Matt from Newport Live, joined us for the lovely PE Fundamentals sessions with Reception children.

Tomorrow and Thursday, Year 5/6 classes begin a series of workshops over the next few weeks with Tom Moloney, a creative artist and historian. Whenever Tom has worked with us, for example last year for the Bee Friendly in Year 3/4 classes, the children have produced amazing work. This extended series of workshops with Tom will result in children producing a very informative history resource using digital and literacy skills. I’m looking forward to seeing the end results!

On Friday, we’re having our Eid Assembly, taken by Class 5/6B and also our Eid Party Day. A letter is being sent home tomorrow with children about contributions for our class parties but please don’t worry if this is difficult for you to do this year, because we will share what we have with everyone.

All children can wear their new Eid clothes or party clothes for the day.

Parents of pupils in Class 5/6B are invited. We will also have an additional 20 spaces available for the assembly on a first come, first served basis so, if you’d like a seat please ring tomorrow morning to enable Mrs Webber add you to the list.

You will need to be here for 9.10am. for the Eid Assembly.

Because we’ve had disturbances with parents arriving late for concerts and assemblies previously, we have had to shut the doors on time for all performances so that children’s performances aren’t disturbed.

Please arrive at 9.00am for entry to the hall. The doors will be shut at 9.10am. I know that if the assembly is important to you, you will understand why we ask you to arrive early and please be respectful.

Thank you very much in advance for your support for this.

Gwent Health Information
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board have advised us that any child with an unexplained rash will be unable to be in school until a parent has visited the doctor with their child. We have also been informed that The Grange Hospital already has two confirmed cases of Measles so please be aware of this illness.

If you need any more information about Measles, please use this link: https://abuhb.nhs.wales/hospitals/staying-well-and-healthy/living-well/immunisations/measles/

Parent Governor
Mr Adeniji, father of Morayo, has confirmed that he has stepped back from his role of Parent Governor, because of his work commitments.

I’d like to thank him very much for standing for nomination as Parent Governor and for his willingness and commitment to help the school.

This means that we now have two vacancies for the role of Parent Governor. Parents of all pupils in the school will be sent more information and also Nomination Forms on Wednesday. Previous Governors or candidates are able to be nominated.

Parent Governors have a very important role to play in representing your thoughts and opinions and you don’t

need any qualifications to apply apart from a willingness to help all children in the school. If you’re interested in this role and want to know more, please feel free to chat with me.

Finally
Our term has started back really well and children were great today! Have a lovely week!

Kind regards,

HL Vaughan
