Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for generously supporting the collection for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. We were all touched by the coin collections and individual donations that were sent in and we raised of £336.25. This has been sent to UNICEF (the United Nations’ children’s fund) and it will all be spent on projects directly involving children and their families.

Minecraft sessions in Years 3 and 4 continue on a Monday.

Catch up testing for pupils missing the National Reading and Numeracy Tests takes place this Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday Y6 pupils leave for the annual visit to Talybont Outdoor Pursuits Centre. This is always a great visit and allows children to have a whole new range of experiences and develop many new skills. They will be returning to school on Friday afternoon. We plan to set up a Twitter account so that parents can see what the children are doing so this will confirmed with Y6 before they go.

A new Communities First After School Club for children in Years 5 and 6 runs every Wednesday from 3.30-5.30pm at the SHARE Centre just up the hill from the school. Sessions cost 50p for the two hours with refreshments included. Parents will need to drop their child to the session and collect them afterwards.

On Thursday morning, Mrs Couch will be running a workshop for parents of children in Years 3 and 4, letting them know about some of the things that their children are learning in Maths and how they can help them in the future. It will run from 9.15-10.15am. I hope that lots of you will be able to attend.

Singing for Y5 pupils continues on Thursday afternoon with Mrs Ceri Gifford-Berry. They are preparing for the Duffryn Cluster Transition Concert which will be held on Wednesday 24th June at 4.00pm. Last year we provided a bus to take you and your children to watch the concert and we will do this again this year. When I have more details I will let you know.

Class 4/5B have their Class Assembly on Friday morning and I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend. It starts at 9.15am and will be on the top floor.

The school has been asked by the National Foundation for Educational Research (who created the National Tests) to take part in an anchor testing activity to help with the national standardisation of results for pupils in Y2/3/4. This will happen on Friday morning and the following pupils will be involved:

Cl 1/2E- Y2

Cl 3/4G – Y3 and Y4

These activities will be carried out in as relaxed an atmosphere as possible and will provide us with the opportunity to have dialogue about the test process with the NFER.

School Mobile Phone

We bought a mobile phone to help parents who may need to text about their child’s absence. Please do not ring and leave messages on this number, but use the school number instead. Our mobile phone is for text messages only.

Punctuality and Attendance

Our attendance since September 2014 has now reached 94.1% and this is a great total! Thank you. This means that at the moment we have reached our target of 94% but we cannot let attendance slip because the percentage will be taken across the whole school year to July when we break up.
