Dear All,

The Leavers’ Disco on Friday night was well attended. Thank you very much to Friends of St Woolos who helped with refreshments

Welcome back to Miss Goodwin, who returns to school today after her maternity leave with baby Olivia! Miss Watkins will continue to work with us this week also.

This afternoon we held our Open Afternoon and the format of this was different to allow you the chance to chat with your child while they showed you their books.

David Lockley from Upbeat Music ran the last Garage Band session with Class 5/6P this afternoon and tomorrow he is visiting Class 5/6BC.

The last Milittlepad session also took place today.

Tomorrow morning Tracey Paddon from Newport Central Library will be joining our assembly to talk to children about the summer reading challenge that the library is running. Football Club is running tomorrow.

Our Leavers’ Service takes place on Wednesday at 10.00am. If your child is in Year 6, I hope that you will be able to join us for this service which is always a lovely opportunity to reminisce and wish good luck to Year 6 pupils. Parents and grandparents attending are invited to stay behind afterwards for refreshments.

On Friday morning, the St Woolos Cwtchers, are visiting the Cwtch (Handpost Community Library Association). They have been researching the kinds of books that pupils would like to see at the Cwtch to borrow so this will be an interesting visit for them. They have been helped in their work by Kate Haywood from Handpost CLA.

School will break up on Monday 20th July and on that day we will be having a Purple Day to raise money for Latch, the Welsh children’s cancer charity. For a donation of 50p children can wear any purple clothes. (A combined lower family donation is ok.) We will also be doing activities such as purple face painting (50p), purple nail varnish (50p), selling purple iced cakes (30p) and selling Latch wristbands (£1.00).

If you are able to donate any new bottles of purple nail varnish or can provide us with a dozen (12) cakes, please let us know before the end of this week. This charity event is very important to us because we want to support Hanad Sharif, who is now a Year 7 pupil, but was with us until last year. His brother and sisters are still at our school. If Hanad is able to come in between hospital appointments, he will be talking to the children about the charity.

Please note that parents are expected to pass on any messages for teachers to Mrs Luckett and Mrs Bashir who are on the door in the morning, and not walk into school.

Parents are requested not to come to the office with money payments-these should be given to your child for them to pass to their class teacher who will make a note of payments. Mrs Martin starts work at 8.45am and she is the only member of office staff on duty first thing in the morning. Her main role first thing is to answer telephone calls and not deal with messages that should go to staff on the door. All messages are passed on by staff on the door and, where appropriate, to me, so please be reassured that they will be noted.

Please pay all outstanding dinner money/trip money/swimming and Talybont money by Friday at the latest.

Bonus Ball

Congratulations to this week’s winner – Mrs Parkinson!

End of term

The end of term is on Monday 20th July.

We are saying goodbye to some staff this term. Mr Roberts will be finishing his contract with us and also leaving us are some GEMS staff, Mrs Abid, Mrs Dass and Mrs Woodford. I would to thank them all for their help and hard work and wish them good luck in the future!

Congratulations to Miss Carlyle who is getting married in the holidays and will be Mrs Morton when she returns to school. Congratulations also to our new Reception teacher, Miss Rowecliff, who is also getting married and will become Mrs Hayes.

Finally I would like to wish the very best of luck to all pupils leaving this term!

I would also like to thank staff for their very hard work this year and thank you for your continuing committed support for the school and for your child’s activities!

I hope that you have a lovely summer!

Yours faithfully,
