Dear All,

Well done to the Nursery and Junior pupils who did such lovely concerts last week!

All of the concerts this year have been great and pupils and staff worked really hard with all of them. Well done and thank you to everyone for these.

Thank you also for helping your child with costumes and words and also for supporting our collection for Latch, the children’s cancer charity.

Well done also to the St Woolos Primary School Choir who had their very first concert on Saturday evening in St Johns Church, Risca Road, in support of the Cwtsh, which is the Community Library and Arts Centre at the Handpost.  (@HandpostCLA)

The Afternoon Nursery Party took place today and the Morning Party is tomorrow.

In our Tuesday assembly, representatives from Newport’s Recycling Department, Streetscene, will be talking to children about recycling over the Christmas period and also about the Christmas card collection that schools will be doing in January.

Tomorrow is a busy day for carol singing.

Classes 3/4G and 3/4M are travelling to Tesco Extra on Cardiff Road tomorrow morning for carol singing and a gingerbread man activity. Class 3/4G will be singing between 10.15 and 11.00am and class 3/4M will be singing between 11.00am and 11.45am.

Meanwhile, Class 4/5B will be carol singing inside BHS from 10.00-11.00am.

All of the children will be collecting for Latch.

Parties for the rest of the School take place on Wednesday 16th December and children can wear their own party clothes for the day.

Please don’t send party food in until Wednesday and please remember to label all your food plates and containers with your name.

On Thursday, Class 4/5B will be going to Asda, Pillgwenlly and will be singing bewteen 10.00 and 11.00am. They will again be collecting for Latch.

On Thursday morning and afternoon, we will be having our usual Talent Shows and these are a lovely opportunity for pupils to perform in front of their friends.

The Nursery Christingle is taking place on Friday morning at Havelock Street Church at 10.00am. Year 5 pupils in classes 5/6P and 5/6W will also be taking part. Nursery children will be accompanied by their parents and, if your child is performing,  you are welcome to join us for this.

Friday is Toy Day, when children can bring in toys and games from home. Please do not send in any mobile devices such as tablets, ipads or any electronic toy that needs to plug in. The aim of Toy Day is to give children the chance to play games and do creative and imaginative  actvities with their friends.

We have been supporting Latch at all our of concerts  and also by carol singing. In addition, staff are giving donations to Latch in lieu of sending Christmas cards. Our final fund-raising activity of the year for Latch is a Christmas Jumper/Top/T-Shirt Day on Friday which children and staff can take part in for a donation of 50p. It’s fine for children to wears jeans or similar with their tops on that day if you wish.

We break up on Friday and School and Nursery resume on Monday 4th January. (There is a INSET day on Monday 11th January.)

Attendance

The attendance figure from September to the end of November is the highest it has ever been at 94.5! Well done!

Mrs Couch sent out attendance letters last week and I know that many of you have found these information letters helpful. I thought that I’d share the attendance figures for each class with you because every class is doing really well.

What is especially good about these totals is that every class is improving and there isn’t a big gap between the highest and lowest attendance. This shows that all classes have been trying equally hard.

Each month, the winning class is given a certificate which goes in the hall for a month and is then kept by the class. Look out for these whenever you are in school because they are often on class doors.

Dinner and Swimming Money

Please pay all money owing by the end of the week.

Bonus Ball

There is a rollover this week.

Happy Christmas

Thank you for all your support for the children this term.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful and happy new year!

Yours faithfully,
