Dear Parent,

Thank you for supporting Comic Relief. We raised a total of £128.60.

World Book Day celebrations last week were really good- I’ve seen some great pictures! We plan to have a Book Week after the Easter break and this will be a lovely opportunity to do lots of book related activities.

Thank you to parents, Mrs Kidd and Mrs Martin who helped with making and selling the Mother’s Day gifts last week. Thank you also to Craft Club for your items. We raised  £140.00.

This morning Year 6 pupils visited the Celtic Manor for a science fair which is designed to increase children’s interest in the world of science and of science jobs. They got the chance to try some activities and do a bridge –building challenge workshop.

Nursery Consultations take place this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

African drumming sessions with Glyn Watkins with Reception and Cl 3/4G take place on Tuesday morning and the Rap/Hip hop music workshops with Class 4/5B continue on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning year 6 are visiting Nant Coch Church for ‘The Easter Experience’ while Year 5 pupils have a visit from PC Amy. In the afternoon, Y6 boys have a health talk.

On Thursday morning, our local PCSOs, Claire and Owen are joining with BHS for a fund-raising activity for our school. They will be cycling on exercise bikes outside BHS and BHS staff will be collecting donations for us. Y2 pupils will be joining them to sing some songs from 11.30am and Class 4/5B pupils will be there from 11.30 to 12.00pm. Class 3/4C will be singing at 2.00pm and Class 3/4G will take over at 2.30pm and singing until 3.00pm. Additionally, some Class 4/5B pupils will be interviewing the BHS store manager as part of their work on the impact of the Friars’ Walk development.

Please join us if you are in town in the morning or afternoon. Claire and Owen are also selling raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses in town. These tickets have been placed in a few offices and we also have a book in school. They are £1.00 for a strip so if you would like some, please send the money in with your child. The school will receive all profits from the sale of the raffle tickets.

Class 5/6P have their assembly on Friday at 9.15am. All parents and grandparents are invited to attend.

Ceri Gifford- Berry continues her singing sessions with infants on Friday afternoon.

Attendance and Punctuality

A reminder about door times.

8.45am- Doors open early

8.50am- School starts

8.55am- Side door is shut

9.00am- The register is taken. Children arriving after 9.00am are marked present, but late.

9.20am- Registers close. (We have a legal window of 30 minutes.)

Children arriving after 9.20am are marked absent in the register. These are Welsh Government rules.

The doors will continue to close at 8.55am until the end of term but, after Easter, they will close at 8.50am. Children arriving after this time will be marked late because the school can no longer allow extra time for entry.

Office messages and money first thing in the morning

Please do not come in to the office first thing in the morning unless it is absolutely essential. Mrs Luckett and Mrs Bashir will pass on any messages. Any money should go with your child to their class teacher so that a class record can be maintained for its collection. Also, please do not ask for dinner money to be changed at the office.

The dinner money is not the school’s responsibility and there have been increasing numbers of requests for change which we cannot accommodate. If you have several children and one has the money, all their brothers or sisters need to do is let their teacher know. Teachers will put a note in a special dinner book for Mrs Lord, the cook, and the money will be marked as paid. All money and pupils numbers are balanced daily by Mrs Lord, so she will keep careful records of money received.

Mrs Martin is the only member of office staff in first thing in the morning and by following the guidance above she will be better able to help you with special enquiries you may have. Thank you for helping us with this.

Parental Consultations

There was excellent attendance at last week’s consultations! If you were unable to come to these important meetings and have been unable to make an alternative appointment, your child’s targets and the new attendance leaflet will be sent home to you this week.

Easter Hat Parade

Our Easter Hat Parade takes place next week, on Thursday 26th March. However, BHS have said that if any children have already made their Easter hats it would be great if they could wear them to sing outside the store this week.

Bonus Ball

There is a roll over this week.

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
