Dear Parent,

The Football Workshops with Ben Davies from Communities First continue on Tuesday afternoon with pupils in Classes 1/2 VS, MS and DJ.

Also on Tuesday afternoon the Bible Experience continues with Class 4/5B.

There are no clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday because we have our Parental Consultations.

There is no GEMS Reading Café this week because of Parental Consultations.

Parental Consultations take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This year, we have tried something new for planning Parental Consultations. Whilst most parents are fantastic at attending, every year there are a few parents who do not return their slip for an appointment and then, when they are given a time, they do not attend. This year, a separate reminder slip was sent out so that parents can contact their child’s teacher for an appointment.

It is really important that you take this chance to see your child’s work and talk about their progress because you can make a huge difference to the success of your child by what you do at home with them.

We make ten minute appointments for each child and this year, to make the evenings really fair for everyone, we will stick to this time limit closely. You are, as always, welcome to make a separate after-school appointment to see your child’s class teacher to discuss any special issues.

Please help to make the evenings run fairly for everyone by helping with this.

A children’s DVD will be running in the Nursery and, if you have to bring your child with you, your child will be expected to attend this DVD so that you can look at your child’s books quietly.

Mr Jon Wilson, headteacher of The John Frost School, will be in school on both evenings on the top floor, and you are welcome to ask him any questions about the school.

Children’s health nurses will be on the middle floor and will collect in completed forms which Infant parents will be given to complete, about the Infant Flu Immunisation Programme,  in December.

On Thursday we are having a Casual Day to support school funds. For a donation of 50p, children are able to wear their choice of home clothes.

Fundraising this year will be used to purchase additional ICT and technology equipment.

After half term, we will hold a meeting for anyone who is interested in helping with our Christmas Fayre or who has any fundraising ideas.

The last week of our Helping Your Child with Year 3/4 Maths course continues on Thursday from 9.00-11.00am. During this session, your child will be able to join you to do some of the Maths activities and games that you have made.

After half term we will be running a Helping Your Child with Year 5/6 Maths course (see Diary Dates).

On Thursday afternoon, PC Thomas will be visiting us again to present sessions on Internet Safety to Year 6 and Year 3 pupils. Please ask your child about this.

School and nursery will be closed on Friday because we have an INSET (IN-Service Education and Training) Day. We will be continuing our review of the curriculum in response to the Donaldson Review of the Curriculum in Wales, commissioned by the Welsh Government.

We break-up on Thursday for half term and there is no school next week. School resumes on Monday 31st October.

Parent Focus Group

Thank you very much to the parents who attended this. We had a very helpful discussion about our website, which we are continuing to develop. One of the sections that we are developing, is parental information. If there is anything that you would find particularly helpful, please let me know.

Office

Please do not come into the office at the start of the day or during the day unless it is absolutely essential.

All messages can be passed on to Mrs Luckett.  Children of all ages are able to be trusted with dinner money, if you give it to them as they go into school.

The reason I am asking this is that since the beginning of term, Mrs Martin and Mrs Kidd have been interrupted so much during the day by parents popping in, that it is increasingly difficult for them to complete all the tasks that they have to do. Mrs Kidd finishes at 3.00pm and Mrs Martin finishes at 4.00pm and they have a lot to get through in that time.

Please also remember that Mrs Martin and Mrs Kidd are not your child’s class teachers and they are not able to provide you with information about your child’s work. You are always welcome to make an appointment to see a teacher after school and to ring first thing is there is anything that we need to follow up immediately.

Bonus Ball

There is a rollover today.

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
