Dear Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for such great attendance at the Open Afternoon! I hope that you found it interesting. We have sent books home this year, and will do in the future, because pupils will be starting brand new books at the start of the school year. This will help your child to settle into their new year group and will enable you to get a clearer picture of your child’s progress throughout the year.

The Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly was, as always, great! The children and staff worked really hard on this and it was lovely to see so many parents, family members, governors and friends of the school attend this to support the children.

The Nursery Garden Parties also were extremely well-attended and I hope that you enjoyed them.

Thank you also to parents and staff who helped with the Leavers’ Disco on Friday evening!

Congratulations to Regan Forward who won the chocolate hamper today!

The Year 5 Cluster Olympics take place at Duffryn High School today.

Lisa Rann, from Upbeat Music joined the Nursery today for a music workshop and she will be back again tomorrow.

The Reception classes are performing a small Drumming Concert on Tuesday morning at 9.30am. You are invited to attend and are welcome to come into the hall to wait when your child comes into school. They will be performing in front of you and also the rest of the school.

Later on Tuesday we will have the Foundation Phase and Junior Talent Shows which are always great!

Wednesday is the last day of term and it is Toy Day and children may bring in board games or activities to do.

They are not permitted to bring in any remote control devices, anything that needs to plug in or expensive items such as tablets or ipads.

The morning and afternoon Nursery have entertainment on Wednesday at 10.30 so please send your child then. There is no afternoon Nursery.

We are also making Wednesday a Purple/Red (Welsh Football) Day to raise funds for Latch, the children’s cancer charity and ‘MelaNOma’, a local charity supporting Cancer Research and promoting the sun-safe message.  For a minimum donation of 50p children may wear their choice of Purple/ Red clothes or football/sports kit.  (Children in Year 5/6 classes have also made some loom bands which they will be selling to their Year 5/6 classmates.) Children can also have Welsh Dragon or Feather facepaints for 50p each. If any parents are able to help with the face-painting, even for an hour, please let us know.

We are continuing to support Latch because they have helped Hanad Sharif, who is a Year 8 pupil at Duffryn High and his brother and sisters are still at St Woolos. We are also happy to support ‘MelaNOma’ because it has been set up by Mr Mike Lockey, an ex-Parent Governor and father of James who is now in Duffryn High.

We break up on Wednesday for the summer holidays and school resumes on Thursday September 1st.  The new Reception children will be starting on Monday 5th September.

This has been a great year for the school and the children have worked so very well, have achieved so much and have had fun!!

This hasn’t been achieved without the support of you as parents and the very hard work of the staff so I would like to say very grateful thanks to you and to them, and to wish everyone a happy and healthy summer holiday!

Good luck in high school Year 6! We will miss you! Don’t forget to come back and visit us ?
