Dear Parent,

Congratulations to Mollie Benjamin and Navid Ibrahimi who won the Early Bird draw for full half termly attendance! They each won a £5.00 gift card. Well done also to all the children who had full attendance and won a fridge magnet.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Parental Consultations before half term! They were really well attended again.

The Assistant Head at Duffryn High School, sent his apologies for being unable to attend. However, he or another colleague, will join us in our Spring Consultations.

Thank you also to the many parents and grandparents who joined us at the Riverfront for the Year 1/2 ‘M is for Mixing’ concert. It was lovely to have so much support and the children were great! I hope you enjoyed joining in with the samba! (Some pictures are on Twitter @StWoolosPrimary)

Nursery Consultations take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. These meetings will give you a really helpful insight into how your child has settled and also what they have been doing during the past few weeks.

On Tuesday afternoon, Jamie Jarvis will be having his final practice with Year 5 pupils ready for their re-enactment of the Chartist March which took place along Stow Hill in 1839. The Chartists were marching for six points in their Charter, amongst which was the right for every man over the age of twenty one to have a vote.

Joe’s Sensory Gym is in school on Wednesday for Nursery pupils. If any Nursery parents would like to pop up to the top hall and see what the sessions are when they come for consultations, they are welcome to do so.

The annual Chartist March starts at 1.30pm on Wednesday and all the children will be going out on the Stow Hill to watch their friends march past.

On Thursday, the third session in our Family Learning Reception/Year 1 Family Learning Literacy Course takes place. You are welcome to join us for this session, even if you were unable to attend the other sessions.

In the morning, Year 1/2 classes are visiting Frankie and Benny’s at Spytty Park to practise mixing and making some pizzas and flavoured drinks. This sounds like a delicious visit!

In the afternoon, from 2.30pm onwards, Mrs Bevan will be available to meet with parents to discuss the booster activities she has been doing with some children in the Juniors. You are welcome to come along to see her.

The Nursery Language and Play sessions have been really successful and the Language course will continue this Friday. On Friday 13th new parents are invited to join those currently attending for Nursery Language and Numeracy. There will also be an opportunity to do Christmas learning activities on Friday 27th November and Friday 4th December.

Attendance

Thank you for continuing to help us to raise our attendance and punctuality.

Please remember that although the Governors have agreed to the school continuing to authorise up to ten days for holidays, if your child has a holiday mark  then they will be recorded as absent on the register because they are not in school. This will affect their percentage attendance. However, if their attendance for the rest of the year is excellent, the impact will not be so great.

Class 4/5B Assembly

A reminder that this is postponed from Friday November 6th and will now take place on Friday 15th January.

Friends of St Woolos

Our Christmas Fayre takes place on Friday 27th November at 3.45pm. Before half term the Friends of St Woolos sent home a cup to fill for our Cups of Fun stall.

There is a meeting on Wednesday 11th November at 2.45pm for any parents who are interested in helping.

All money raised by the Friends of St Woolos is used to pay for activities and items for the children. Next Monday’s pantomime will be paid for by money raised by them and it is also being used this term to buy sets of tablets for each Junior class for ebook reading.

Children in Need

BBC Children in Need takes place on Friday 13th November. The theme is ‘Dressing up’ and children are invited to dress up as anything they want to or wear casual clothes for a donation of 50p. Mrs Kidd and Mrs Martin will be hosting a Cha-Cha Children in Need Dance session for the infants in the morning and the juniors in the afternoon. We will also be collecting spare copper coins on the day.

School Photos

These will be sent home on Tuesday and your order needs to be returned to school by Friday 13th November.

Goodbye and Good Luck

Mrs Wainwright, our Midday Supervisor, will be leaving us on Wednesday to start a new job.

I’d like to wish her all the best and thank her for her contribution to the school, not only in her working life but in her longstanding role as Friend of St Woolos several years ago!

Congratulations

Congratulations and best wishes to Miss Lott who has got married and is now Mrs Agland!
