Dear Parent/Carer,

Apologies that no newsletter was sent out last week.

Well done to Class 5/6G who presented such a lovely Remembrance Assembly on Friday 11th November. We were joined Mr Carter and Mr Roberts from Newport’s Western Front Association and part of the service contained a moving roll call of local boys who lost their lives in the First World War.

On Remembrance Sunday, Angel Huang represented our pupils at Newport Cathedral’s Annual Service of Remembrance and she laid a poppy wreath next to one of the war memorials.

During the lead up to Remembrance Day we sold a number of items such as poppies and wrist bands to support The Royal British Legion, who help to support ex-service personnel and their families. The collecting boxes were collected by The British Legion last Friday and although unable to confirm the exact amount at the moment, we have been told that it is over £500, which is an incredible total. Thank you. 😊

The amount raised for Children in Need on Thursday was £206. Thank you for supporting this very good cause. 😊

This Week
Tomorrow is Tombola Tuesday and in return for wearing casual clothes, children are asked to being in an item for our Tombola at the Fayre such as toiletries, tinned or packet foods, chocolate and sweets etc.

Raffle tickets will be on sale every day this week at break time in the hall. They are £1.00 a strip.

We also plan to have a toy stall so please send in any good condition toys that we can sell on the day.

If you’re able to provide cake, some samosas or pakoras, please send them in on Friday morning.

The Nursery Santa’s Workshop takes place on Friday morning and this is for morning and afternoon children.

It’s a chance for you to make Christmas crafts and do Christmas activities with your child.

Please note, there is no afternoon Nursery, since both sessions are joined together.

Our Christmas Fayre takes place on Friday from 3.45-5.00pm.

Stalls will be run mainly by staff so, in order to enable everyone to be ready to start, please line up at the front of the school, by the main gate. The queue will run down Stow Hill. Once all of the children have been dismissed and staff are on their stalls, the Fayre will start. Mr Brock, our caretaker, will be at the main gate, to help.

If any children aren’t collected in time, they will be taken to the staffroom to wait to be collected, so please come to the main entrance, even if usually you use the rear one in North Street.

All games are 20p a go, and this means that children will have lots of chances to spend just a little amount of money. I hope that you will be able to join us for this event. All money raised is used to support Christmas and other activities for the children.

Father Christmas will be visiting us on the day and we will have Santa’s Grotto in the room on the stairs between the two floors. Please join the queue there if you want to see Father Christmas.

Thank you very much if you have already offered to help. Any help is welcome so if you find that you have a morning or an afternoon free this week and could help with some labelling or sorting of items ready for Friday, please email to let us know at stwoolos.primary@newportschools.wales

Parent Governor
We had a great response in the recent ballot for Parent Governor. Thank you.

In order to make the ballot count very fair, the votes are always opened and counted in the presence of the candidates, the Chair of Governors, Mrs Ceri Meloy, and myself.

The date that works for both candidates is Thursday 24th November and the votes will be counted with them first thing in the morning. I’ll let you know on Thursday what the result is.

I’m very grateful to both Mrs Mujahid and Mr Burke, for being willing to stand. Some schools struggle to find even one candidate for election so it’s a great reflection on our parents that we have two parents willing to do so.

Hope to see you at the Fayre on Friday!

Very kind regards,
Heather Vaughan
