Dear All,

Nursery had their second week of learning about Wales and did some lovely activities. The Nursery Dragon Day on Wednesday was really successful- thank you for helping with that!

Thank you for returning the World Fortnight questionnaires.

Thank you for attending our Y1/2 Celebration Event at Rodney Parade last Wednesday. Thank you very much if you helped with the project, either in class or by accompanying children on their activities outside school. Huge thanks also go to Norman Parselle and all the staff at Newport County and County in the Community for their tremendous support with this project. This was the last event of our Lead Creative Schools project ‘Football Fever’ and I’d also like to thank all of the Y1/2 staff for their strong commitment to this project.

Year 5 children are going into their last week of the swimming course and the progress that they have all made has been excellent! They will be doing a series of assessments this week and their final day on Friday is a Fun Day. They won’t need any money for the vending machine because with such a big group there won’t be time to have a long time in the water, buy snacks and get to the bus in time to leave for their next pick up. We will, instead, give the children a free treat when they get back to school.

Classes 3/4G and 3/4M visited the toy shop, The Entertainer, today as part of their project work.

Milittlepad sessions on coding continue with  Year 3 and Year 4 pupils today.

On Tuesday Upbeat Music will be taking a music session in the Nursery.

The National Test Parent Meeting planned for Wednesday at 2.45pm has been changed to Friday 27th January at the same time of 2.45pm. Last week’s evening meeting was well-attended and parents had the opportunity to ask any questions about the tests. Mrs Couch, the Deputy Head, will take the meeting and you will have the chance to see past papers and talk about how you can help your child.

We have Parental Consultations in March and these will provide you with another opportunity to find our more if you wish to.

The GEMS Reading Café is on Wednesday and it starts at 2.45pm.

On Thursday from 2.30pm onwards, we have a drop-in session for the new school meal system Parent Pay (see note later).

On Friday, Class 3/4G are doing their Class Assembly. It starts at 9.15am and you are welcome to watch.

Eco Tip

Continue with cardboard recycling by saving as much cardboard as you can!

Paying for school meals

Parent Pay, the new system for school meal payment, will begin on Monday 30th January. From that date no cash will be accepted in school to pay for meals.

All pupils were sent an information letter about this last week. If your child was absent, please ask their class teacher for the letter about it.

A special letter will be sent home tomorrow for every child who pays for dinners.

If your child recieves free school meals, there is no need for you to do anything because their meal will automatically be ordered for them in school.

Mrs Kidd and Mrs Martin are holding a drop-in session this Thursday from 2.30pm onwards to give you help with setting up your account if you would like it. This session will be especially helpful if you do not have access to the internet or just want to talk the new system through a bit more.
