Dear Parent,

Your support for Daffodil Day was great. Thank you! We raised £166.17 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. I hope that your daffodils are growing well!

Congratulations to Isaac Kalter and Tasiane Tchatchoua who won the half termly Early Bird draw for full attendance and punctuality! They each win a £5.00 gift card.

This week is the second of our Welsh Fortnight and children will be preparing for our Eisteddfod next Monday. On that day, children are invited to dress up either in traditional Welsh costumes or wear their national costume. Alternatively, children can wear the uniforms of any organisations or clubs that they belong to such as Brownies or Tae Kwan Do. Children can also wear a t-shirt or jumper in their house colours which are:

Usk – Yellow

Ebbw – Green

Wye – Red

Severn – Blue

All children who have made a Dragon model at home over the half term will earn five points for their house as part of the Eisteddfod. Wednesday is the closing date. Thank you for supporting your child with this.

Minipad sessions from ‘Milittlepad’ with Class 3/4C continued today.

On Tuesday, Classes 5/6BR and 5/6P are visiting the SHARE Centre for Healthy Living workshops and this is a Communities First programme.

The Rap Music Project from Upbeat Music and Arts (who do our Taiko, Samba and Foundation Phase singing) continues on Wednesday with Class 4/5B.

The Y2/3 Parent Numeracy Workshops continue on Thursday morning from 9.00-11.00am. You are welcome to join us even if you have been unable to attend before. During the session, your child will have the chance to work with you on a fun activity.

Before Christmas, Communities First launched a Time Banking system in Newport and the school plans to launch an in-school system for parents and grandparents. This Time Banking system means that any parent or grandparent volunteering for any activity in school can earn a Time Credit for each hour of time given. These Time Credits can be exchanged for a variety of activities eg two Time Credits= 1 Riverfront Cinema ticket or 1 Newport County ticket.

The system is very new in Newport and more organisations are coming on board to sign up for this. On Thursday at 2.30pm, Mr Danilo Padilha, who works for Communities First, will be at a meeting in school for you to find out more about this.

If you are interested in this Time Banking system and would like to find out more, please complete and return the attached slip with your child or give it to Mrs Luckett or Reception/Nursery staff at the door in the morning.  If work or other commitments prevent you from coming to the meeting, then Mr Padilha can email you some details if you would like.

We have a lot of parents and grandparents who give up their time at different points in the year to support with various activities so I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join the Time Banking scheme to benefit from this.

Attendance and Punctuality

Just a reminder that school door times are:

8.45am –  Doors open early

8.50am – Official school start time

8.55am – Side door and Reception door shut.

8.55am – Registers marked

Pupils coming to the front door will be marked as late and Mrs Luckett or Mrs Bashir will be at the front door.

This change will only affect the very small number of children who frequently arrive late and will help with punctuality.

Eco Tip

Recycle or reuse whenever possible. Use sites like Freecycle which are free.
