Dear Parent,

The children were great last week and really impressed the inspectors!

The inspection has gone extremely well but the results are confidential at the moment. The inspecting team have sent the draft report to Estyn and it will now be scrutinised before publication in approximately forty-five days. I will let you know when it comes out.

If you attended the coffee morning on Thursday, I hope that you found it helpful.

We plan to hold another one next term and will let you know about it once we are able to confirm who will be joining us.

We saw Mrs Dickenson’s Reception class imovie in assembly on Friday and it was lovely to see what they have been doing!

All clubs are running as normal this week apart from Playground Games Club tomorrow which is cancelled because staff are on a training course.

The final Minecraft session for Class 4/5B took place this afternoon.

On Tuesday morning, the annual Holocaust Memorial Service which is organised by Newport City Council, is taking place at Newport (St Woolos Cathedral). The school has been invited to send along representatives, so Mrs Couch and I will be taking House and Vice- Captains to this service.

Newport County Football is on Tuesday with Class 4/5B.

On Thursday, Mrs Harwood, from the Cwtsh Library Project (Handpost Library) is visiting us again to meet with the group of pupils who are working with her and Miss Lott on the Cwtsh project. (They have named themselves the ‘St Woolos Cwtshers’ .)The Cwtsh will be having an Open Day on Saturday February 14th and anyone can attend. When I have further details I will let you know more.

Class 3/4G have their Class Assembly this week at 9.15am. Parents and grandparents are welcome to attend.

The third Nursery Number and Play takes place again on Friday morning from 9.15-11.15am and in the afternoon from 1.00 to 3.00pm.

Also on Friday, Womens’ Aid are starting a three week programme with Year 6 called ‘Challenging Attitudes’ and this looks at issues of understanding and communication. We have run this course in school for a number of years and it is always a very successful one for the children.

Family Learning

The Y2/3 Parent Numeracy Workshops will start on Thursday 5th February from 9.00-11.00 am and they will be taken by Mrs Carrie John from the Family Learning service. During these sessions your child will have the chance to join you for a numeracy activity. The sessions will run until Thursday 12th March but there is the possibility of extending them until the 19th March if there is sufficient demand. Refreshments will be provided and I hope that you will be able to join us.

Website and Twitter

We have had some problems with our new website over the past few months but you should now be able to access it at www.stwoolosprimary.org (This address is on your term date card if you need it at a later date.) If you’d like to follow us on Twitter, our name is @StWoolosPrimary. Remember to lock your profile though if you don’t want everyone to see it.

School Dinners

Dinner money must be sent in daily please because Chartwell’s Catering collect and record it daily.

Please ensure that any money owing is paid as soon as possible so that Chartwell’s do not have to pursue debts through their credit control department.

The school does not manage or collect school dinner money- it is the responsibility of Chartwell’s Catering.

Bonus Ball

There is a rollover this week.

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
