Dear All,

Thank you for supporting our casual day for school funds. We raised total of £108.00. We will continue to support charitable events but from time to time will need to do a fund raising event to just help out.

The Internet Safety evening held for parents last week was very helpful and I will be sending out a separate letter with information in. Our digital leaders gave a presentation at the meeting and they will be using the extra information they found out, to give a further presentation to the junior pupils.

Well done to the Netball team who had their first match of the season against Alway Primary School! The score was 6-1 to them and both teams played extremely well. The Alway team chose a Player of the Match who was Darnia Masood and our Player of the Match was Robbie Stacey. Well done to all of the team! We will be having a return match soon.

The crowns that have been sent in for our Eisteddfod design competition are fantastic! Thank you very much for supporting your child with this activity. (I’ll put some pictures on Twitter for you to see.)

Our Eisteddfod will be held tomorrow morning and children are able to wear either Welsh or their own national costume, a top in their house colours or a uniform of an organisation that they belong to.

Colours are:

Usk – Yellow

Wye-  Red

Severn – Blue

Ebbw – Green

This is always a lovely chance to celebrate March 1st which is St David’s Day.

On Wednesday afternoon, ‘PlayLearnPlay’ will continue their series of visits to work with Classes 3/4Gand 3/4M. The team who ran the session comprise a sports coach and a senior PE advisor, both of whom work across all of South Wales, and both classes were congratulated on the excellent behaviour of the pupils and the very good turn out of children with appropriate sports kit.

The Daffodil Day for Marie Curie run by the infant classes is on Wednesday and doors open at 3.00pm. Please queue at the main front door.

In order to make it easier at the end of the day for infant parents arriving at 3.30pm,  children who normally go out at the front door (Classes 3/4G, 3/4M and 4/5B) will go out in the fire escape door by the mural on the righthand side of the school (near the other Y1/2door).

The Wednesday after school Year 6 Golf Club, run by staff from ‘NewportLive’, continues this week.

Thursday is World Book Day and children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character or bring in their favourite book to share with their class. Please send all World Book day competition sheets in by Wednesday.

The  Y2/3 Literacy/Numeracy Course finishes on Thursday but I hope to have details of more courses which will run after Easter soon. I hope that the course has been helpful for you.

Class 4/5B have been invited to take part in the Chartist Lantern Parade which will take place on Saturday 5th March, from approximately 4.30pm. As soon as I have further details, I will let parents know. The events for the Chartist Light and Sound show will be running in Westgate Square, John Frost Square and also the Riverfront Theatre.

Parental Consultations

These take place on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th March. Please complete and return the attached form by Thursday at the latest. As in previous yaers, we will run a DVD in the Nursery, for parents who have no-one to babysit. Year 6 pupils will be able to go in with their parents. Staff from Duffryn High School will be available to see you and Mrs Couch will also be available to talk to you about the National Tests, which take place in May.

Bonus Ball

There is another rollover this week!

Yours faithfully,
