Dear Parent,
It was lovely to see so many parents attending Consultations last week! Where parents were unable to attend it was helpful that you informed us beforehand because that meant that teachers could re-allocate some appointments to help with parents’ requests. Thank you.
Congratulations to the Eco Team, and everyone in the school, for gaining our third Eco Green Flag award! The assessor, Mr Rhys Bebb, was really impressed by the Eco Team’s knowledge and enthusiasm!
This week’s tip- Choose products with only a small amount of packaging.
Well done to Class 1/2S for their lovely assembly before half term!
Congratulations to our half termly Early Bird winners who were Liam Williams and Isaac Jones. They each win a £5.00 giftcard. Well done also to those children with full attendance this half term who won a fridge magnet! We have added a further six designs to the fridge magnet collection and the magnets are proving very popular.
Thank you also for continuing to help with attendance. This is one of the factors that will affect the school’s grading which will be published in the new year. For the few parents whose children are arriving late in the morning, this is a reminder about the Fixed Penalty system that Newport City Council has introduced. The Welsh Government requires every school to monitor pupil attendance and lateness and to liaise with the Educational Welfare Officer.
Mr Chris Jackson continues his series of ipad sessions with Class 4/5B today and will continue to do creative and media activities.
Nursery Consultations take place on Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th this week.
Football Club is cancelled on Tuesday due to Mrs Davies attending Nursery Consultations.
The annual Chartist March takes place on Tuesday at 1.30pm and Year 5 pupils will be marching down Stow Hill, following the route of the Chartists who marched to Westgate Square from beyond the Risca area in 1849. They were marching to gain support for the People’s Charter which had six points:
- A vote for every man over 21
- A secret ballot
- No property qualification to be an MP
- A salary for all MPs
- Equal constituencies
- An annual parliament
This year is the 175th anniversary of the event and we were asked to hold a competition to create a design for a Chartist badge to be given to all of the school children taking part in the march. Congratulations to Sashka Klapkova whose design was chosen!
The Football Team are competing in a Football Tournament on Wednesday at Spytty Park. The Reception/Y1 Literacy course continues on Thursday from 9.00-11.00am. You are welcome to join this session, even if you have not been able to come to any of the others. A Language and Play course for Nursery parents will start on Friday 14th November and the
sessions will run from 9.15-11.15am or 1.00-3.00pm.
There will a meeting of The Friends of St Woolos on Thursday at 2.45pm to discuss the Christmas Fayre. All parents and grandparents are welcome to attend. If you are unable to attend the meeting , but would like to help either beforehand or on the day, or have an idea for a stall, please let the office know.
Age Cymru competition forms must be returned to their office by Friday.
Clubs
The new set of children for Cookery Club are starting this half term and I’m sure that they will have great fun in the kitchen!
Now that it is getting darker earlier, if you would still like your child to walk home on their own after clubs (Y5 and 6 only) it is important that you complete and return the attached form to your child’s class teacher.
Welcome
Welcome to Mr John Roberts BScEcon (Hons) PGCE, who joins Mrs Barton’s class as a job share teacher on a Monday and Tuesday. Mr Roberts has already taught supply cover in the school so he is known to many pupils and I know that he will be an asset to our school.
Bonus Ball
There is a rollover this week.
Yours sincerely,
H Vaughan
