Dear Parent,

Our week started with special music workshops from Huw Williams for junior classes. Classes 3/4M , 3/4G and 4/5B had a session on 1960s music and Classes 5/6P and 5/6W each had a session on 1940s music. They all sounded great!

Milittlepad sessions in Classes 3/4M and 3/4G ran as usual this afternoon.

Discovery Bible Club is staring tomorrow lunchtime.

Craft Club will be cancelled this week because staff and volunteers are unable to take it.

On Wednesday afternoon, Jamie Jarvis will be taking the second of his Chartist drama sessions with Year 5 ready for their special march on Wednesday November 4th.

Also on Wednesday at 2.45pm is our Parent Focus Group. I have only held two of these before and no-one was able to come to the last one so I hope that some of you will be able to attend this week. What I especially want to talk about with you is the kinds of courses that we could run that would be helpful for you with your child. We are also planning a series of ‘Coping With Kids’ courses and would be grateful for your input on those. I also hope to run a food hygiene course if parents are interested in attending. If you are unable to come to the meeting but have any ideas or suggestions, please let Mrs Luckett know in the morning. She always passes on all messages to all staff.

Our Harvest Festival takes please on Friday at 9.15am. I am sorry about the short notice regarding the change of date but it was due to circumstances beyond our control. We would appreciate a donation of tinned or packet foods which can be brought in any time this week. Please send fresh foods, such as vegetables, in on Friday. The food will be collected on Friday afternoon by The Raven House Trust (churches working together in Newport) and given to the hungry of Newport. Tesco bakers are providing us with a harvest loaf which we will share with children after our assembly.

You are invited to join us for our Harvest Festival service.

Your child has worked hard to remember a poem or a song and I know that you want them to have the best experience they can when they are taking part.

Therefore, I am reminding parents not to talk during the assembly but to listen carefully to all the classes. This will mean that all the children have a polite, listening audience and they will be able to enjoy performing for you.

Please do not bring any children to the assembly below Nursery age.

I’m sure you will appreciate that I am reminding you about this so that your child can be heard and not have their performance spoilt. Thank you for your co-operation with this request.

Our Nursery Language and Play course started last Friday and went well. If you joined us for this but want to see the Harvest that is fine because Rhian Kemp, who is running the course, will adjust the group accordingly. You are welcome to attend, even if you couldn’t make it last week. Times are: 9.30-11.30am or 1.00-3.00pm.

Later on Friday morning, Dr Emma Gibbons, who is the Director of Music at Newport (St Woolos) Cathedral, will be visiting the juniors to talk about the Cathedral Choir.

Parental Consultations

These will be held on Tuesday 20th October (3.45-7.00pm) and Wednesday 21st October (3.45-5.30pm). This is a great opportunity for you to see how your child has settled in this term and I hope that you will be able to come.

Please complete the supplied form to choose your three preferences for appointment times and send it in by Friday 9th October. These time choices will be taken account of when teachers set appointments but cannot be guaranteed because all parents have to be considered in these appointments. The quicker you return your slip, the better, especially if you have children in several classes. You will be given a slip with your appointment time by your child’s class teacher next week.

Bonus Ball

We have a winner this week- Mrs Martin in the office.

Yours sincerely,
