Dear Parent/Carer,

What lovely concerts last week from Reception classes and Years 1 and 2! Their singing was gorgeous and they really did you proud! Well done everyone! It was lovely also to have so many parents join us for these concerts.

As well as the concerts, last week was a busy week for pupil events inside and outside of school.

  • Children performing in The Dolman Theatre ‘Tea for Two’ concert last week sang so well and we have had a lovely email from the organisers thanking them for such a great performance.
  • Well done also to the Xylophone and Glockenspiel group who did a lovely concert for us last week! They learnt to play their tunes in only five weeks.
  • Class 4J took some concert invitations to St Mary’s Court and they also sang some songs to them. They were lucky enough to meet Father Christmas while they were there.
  • A group of pupils made their second visit to Sycamore Ward at St Woolos Hospital last Friday to help them celebrate ‘National Elf Day’.

All of the children taking part in events last week were such good ambassadors for the school and were a credit to you!

It’s lovely to welcome back Mrs Parry to class 3P. Thank you to Mrs Hassell who has helped us in recent weeks.

Tonight, the Choir will be performing at Newport Cathedral in a concert in aid of Newport MIND. They will be singing between 7.00 and 7.30pm and admission is free if anyone would like to attend.

Our school Christmas Dinner is on Wednesday. Children will be making hats to wear at their Christmas Dinner (or sandwiches) and at the parties next week.

Please ensure that your ParentPay account is up to date if you wish to order Christmas Dinner.

Our Lower Junior Concerts take place on Thursday and Friday at 2.00pm (Years 3 and 4). Residents of St Mary’s Court will be joining us at Friday’s performance. If you haven’t yet collected your tickets, please do so as soon as you can so that we can confirm numbers.

Please remember that no child under Nursery age is permitted to attend the concerts. This is to ensure that your child can have a fair chance of performing without being disturbed by other babies or toddlers.

If you have no-one to babysit, there will be an opportunity for you to attend a dress rehearsal the day before, on Wednesday at 2.00pm, where there will be several staff free to show you to another room if your baby cries. Please see your child’s class teacher to ask about this.

The Upper Junior Concert  (Years 5 and 6) takes place on Monday 17th December but if you need to watch the Dress Rehearsal with a baby or toddler, this will take place on Friday 14th at 9.30am. Again, there will be staff available to help you should you need it.

Please ensure that you arrive on time. Admittance will be restricted for parents arriving too late for the concerts.

On Saturday, the Choir are singing in the annual concert at Newport Cathedral with Newport City Orchestra who will be playing music from The Snowman. It is in aid of the Newport Night Shelter and the Cwtsh, Community Library Association and tickets are available from the school at the reduced prices of £4.00 and £6.00.

Congratulations

We are so very proud of our past pupils in Years 10 and 11 in The John Frost School, St Julians School, Newport High School and St Joseph’s RC High School because they organised such a great Coffee Afternoon on Saturday and raised £304 for the new Aneurin Bevan Health Board Breast Care Centre of Excellence which will be built at Ystrad Mynach Hospital.

Huge congratulations to them for organizing such a venture themselves and thank you also to parents and friends of the school who attended.😊 Miss Bishop was so very touched by their actions and their warm wishes.

Twitter and SCHOOP

Wherever possible we put photos of school events on Twitter @StWoolosPrimary, so that you can see what happens during the week.

To keep you up to date with events, please sign up to SCHOOP, which is available for Android and Apple phones on the app store. Our code is 3690. This newsletter is now sent out every week on SCHOOP and

124 parents are currently signed up, but for this to work well it is important that as many parents as possible join so that you don’t miss out on messages and information.
