Dear Parent,
What a lovely Harvest Festival Service we had last week!
Every class performed excellently and it was lovely to be joined by such a supportive number of parents and grandparents. Thank you. We had a really good range of foods donated and these will be passed on to The Raven House Trust, which provides food parcels to families in need in Newport.
Well done to the Football Squad in the recent tournament at The International Sports Village at Spytty recently. The boys played four matches and, although they didn’t win, Mr Pugsley said that they played really well as a team and were very good sports. Well done!
Today and tomorrow a class-size group of Year 6 pupils are taking part in a Coding Experience at the Sony plant in Bridgend. They will also be working with the film production company It’s My Shout, with whom we worked for our Lead Creative Schools’ Hungry Heroes project. This is the first time we have had the opportunity to take part in this Sony project and I know that the children will really enjoy it.
Parental Consultations place on Tuesday and Wednesday. (Nursery Parental Consultations on Tues 22nd October and Wednesday 23rd October.)
In addition, Miss Watkins will be holding a session on Wednesday 23rd October.
Appointment slips have come out today. We make ten minute appointments for each child and, to make the evenings really fair for everyone, we will stick to this time limit closely. You are, as always, welcome to make a separate after-school appointment to see your child’s class teacher to discuss any other special issues which might need more time.
Please help to make the evenings run fairly for everyone by helping with this.
A children’s DVD will be running in the Nursery and, if you have no babysitter and have brought your child with you, please take them to the Nursery for this DVD so that you can then look at your child’s books.
In the Spring Consultations, as part of our transition process, Year 6 pupils will go in with their parents.
There will be no after school clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday because of Consultations. In addition, Netball on Thursday is cancelled because Miss Sweet and Mrs Jarrett have a Governors’ meeting to attend.
On Thursday Year 2 pupils have a visit to Little Oaks Play Park as part of their topic work, and it should be a really enjoyable visit.
Attendance
Thank you for responding so well to notifications that have been sent to you if your child’s attendance is in need of improvement. Your child can only learn and progress fully if they are in school every day.
Please remember that a day is comprised of two sessions; a morning and afternoon session and each one counts for attendance marks.
Office
The office staff are very busy and don’t work full-time. At the moment they are being interrupted by a series of very unnecessary visits and disturbances and we need your help to manage this situation by doing the following:
- Please give trip money to your child to bring in. Don’t take it to the office. It has to go to their class teacher so that they know what has been brought in. Mrs Jones will have spare envelopes and pens at the side door if you need to put the money in one.
- Please do not bring your child’s lunch in, mid-morning. All meals should be given to children first thing.
- Please ensure that you have arranged who will pick your child up from school at the end of the day, when you bring them in the morning. The office staff are having too many calls from parents who have not made arrangements and they really haven’t got time to go all over the school delivering messages on foot all the time.
- Please ring the school for a pre-arranged appointment if you wish to discuss anything. Whenever I am here, I can see you for a very urgent situation first thing but otherwise, you will need to make an appointment.
- Please ensure that you pick your child up on time at the end of the day.
These are basic expectations for all schools and so I thank you in advance for your kind co-operation with this.
Future Dates
The next Family Learning Workshop will takes place on Thursday 24th October from 9.00-10.30am and it will focus on developing written Language skills.
Class 3/4B have their Class Assembly on Friday 25th October at 9.30am and I hope that parents and grandparents will be able to join us for that.
We have an additional INSET Day on Monday 4th November, straight after half term.
I’m sorry that you have had short notice about this and realise that the notification may have caused some problems for you with work. However, the Welsh Government have given schools an extra INSET day to be used during this year in order to prepare for the new curriculum, and it was an opportunity for schools in the John Frost School Cluster to join together at Clytha Primary School for a Maths session which is being provided by a team who also deliver training nationally.
There will be no other changes to the INSET days for the rest of the year though. If you need spare term date cards to carry with you, or to share, please ask at the office.
Breakfast Club Staff Vacancy
We have a temporary vacancy until the end of term for a Breakfast Club Supervisor. The hours are 7.45am-8.45am.
Please contact the office for an application from if you are interested in one of these posts.
Yours sincerely,
H Vaughan
