Dear Parent/Guardian,

Thank you and well done to Class RD for doing such a lovely Class Assembly about their work this year!

Milittlepad sessions for pupils in Classes 5/6P and 5/6W continue today.

We’ve got lots of musical activities taking place this week.

On Tuesday, Year 5 start the first in a series of Samba sessions in preparation for the Y5 Transition Concert at John Frost High School on Wednesday 28th June at 4pm. These sessions will be taken by Ben Williams from Upbeat Music and Arts.

Football from Newport County in the Community continues on Tuesday morning for children in Class 5/6P.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sharon Mason from PlayLearnPlay, will be teaching Gymnastics to children in Y1/2 classes.

Drumming for Reception and Classes 3/4M and 3/4G continue on Wednesday. Jason Robinson from Upbeat Music and Arts, is leading these sessions. Pupils doing drumming will perform a little concert for parents at 10am on Wednesday 24th May and I hope that you will be able to join us for that.We also intend to show the class video from Mrs Dickenson’s class at that concert because we lost our network connection in the assembly on Friday.

Singing group rehearsals for the Operasonic performance at the Riverfront Theatre on Sunday 2nd July continue after school on Wednesday.

On Friday morning we have been invited to take part in the launch of the Chartist Art project, ‘In Their Footsteps’ . The event starts at 9.30am when House Captains will be accompanying Mrs Couch and I to Newport (St Woolos) Cathedral where the clay shoes that all pupils made will be on display. The guests will then walk down Stow Hill looking at the new art work on the way. At approximately 10.00am children from Years 5 and 6 will be outside the school to do the Chartist chant. The event will then continue on to Westgate Square.

This is a great opportunity for our children to help mark this very special event which commemorates the Chartist Uprising in Newport in 1839.

Special congratulations to Emily Cox in Year 6, whose Chartist poem was a prizewinner in the Chartist Writing Competition run by Newport Live at the Riverfront Theatre to commemorate the ‘In Your Footsteps’ project.

She will receive a prize from one of the judges, Danielle Rowlands from the Riverfront, when she visits the school soon. (I am unable to confirm the date for this yet).

Emily’s poem will feature in the new Newport Rising interactive website which is being developed alongside a Chartist Walking Tour app. (I will let you know more information about this when I have it).

Girls’ Football

Year 5 and 6 girls had a great time in John Frost Square last week. They all had their photo taken with the Champions League Trophy and details about finding the photos are available from your child’s class teacher.

Don’t forget that your child can access Mathletics from home. Mislaid log-in details are available from your child’s class teacher.

Headlice

If your child needs treatment for head lice first thing in the morning, please send them in to school in the afternoon, so that they do not lose two attendance marks for the day.
