Dear Parent/Carer,
Year 5/6 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Brecon Mountain Railway last week and were a credit to you! They all especially enjoyed riding on the steam train.
Our three week Swimming Course started today for pupils in Year 5 and they’ve made a great start. We’re really proud of both their effort on their first day and also their behaviour. Well done! We’re always impressed by the progress that children make on this course by the end. 😊
We plan to run another Swimming Course after Christmas for Year 4 pupils, and from then on, swimming will be taught every year to Year 4s. This is because swimming is such an essential life and safety skill and we want to help them to learn, or develop, their swimming skills, as soon as possible.
Our next Family Learning Course is on Thursday and is looking at Year 1/2 Writing. It starts at 9.00am – 10.30am and, as usual, you will get the chance to work with your child at the end. Mrs Couch will be running the session and there will be refreshments, so even if you’ve never come to one of our workshops before, feel free to drop in for a coffee and biscuit, to find out more.
Later on Thursday, from 3.00-4.00pm, Our Stow Hill Pantry, which is provided by Newport Cathedral and supplemented by staff donations, will run on Thursday from 3.00-4.00pm. There may be some items left on Friday morning, but it’s better to come on Thursday to be sure.
On Friday, children taking part in the Night at the Opera music project with ‘Offstage Opera’ will be spending the day at Newport Cathedral having a rehearsal and workshop with pupils from the Gaer Primary, who are also taking part in the project. Their performance is on Friday and our pupils are performing on Saturday at 7.00pm. This has been a lovely chance for our children to become familiar with some classic opera songs and it will be a lovely experience for them to sing on Saturday. They sounded great when I heard them in the hall and are obviously enjoying themselves.
Parent Governor
Thank you very much to two parents who have been nominated for the role of Parent Governor. They are Mr Ciaran Burke, father of Ben in Foundation Phase and also Mrs Mujahid, mother of Minnah and Haris in Key Stage 2. We will now be holding an election and I’ll contact you again as soon as I get the ballot envelopes from Governor Support in the Education Achievement Service. Many schools struggle at the moment to get a nomination for the post of Parent Governor so we’re really lucky to be in the position where we have two.
Thank you.
Fruit and Snacks
Thank you for respecting our Healthy School guidance.
We will now be selling fruit after half term, once our supplier has been confirmed. I’ll let you know more next week.
