Dear All,

Concerts last week for the Nursery and for Key Stage Two were tremendous! Well done to everyone for their excellent singing and performing! It was lovely to have such great support from parents and grandparents also.

It’s lovely to see such high standards of productions and I’d like to thank all of the staff throughout the school who have worked so hard preparing the children for these performances. Thank you also for helping with costumes and word practices.

Well done to those children who sang in the concert at Newport (St Woolos) Cathedral on Monday evening in aid of MIND. Once again, they sang beautifully and represented the school so well.

Thank you so much for your very generous donations of Christmas food items for the School Council Food Bank appeal last week. Representatives of our School Council visited Clytha Primary School with the food that had been collected and handed it over ready to be collected by a parent from there who volunteers at the Newport Food Bank (Raven House Trust). These items will really help to make a difference to families who are struggling this Christmas.

They also arranged to meet some pupils from St Gabriel’s RC Primary School who were donating items and as a result of this visit the three School Councils plan to meet up in the Spring Term for an activity.

All Clubs have now finished.

Christmas Dinner was today and it was delicious.

If you have any money owing on ParentPay please arrange to pay it as soon as possible.

If you have arrears outstanding at the end of the year, we will be unable to give your child a hot meal and you will need to provide them with sandwiches.

Our Nursery parties take place tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Parties and discos for children in Reception upwards take place on Wednesday. Thank you in advance for your food donations for these parties, which are always so much fun!

Children can wear their party clothes on this day.

The Talent Shows will be on Thursday 21st December.

The Nursery Christingle takes place on Friday at 10.00am at Havelock Street Church, across the road from the school. This is a long standing tradition for our Nursery and every year we are joined by a group of Year 5 and 6 singers who also help make this service very special. We will also be joined by the Rev. Ron Prosser from Stow Park Church Centre. I hope that you will be able to accompany your child for this service and also bring a Christingle with you. Other parents and grandparents also are welcome to join us if you would like to share in a Christingle Service this year.

Friday is also our charity Christmas jumper/top day/own clothes day and children can choose what to wear for a minimum donation of 50p.

Every year school staff donate to a charity instead of giving Christmas cards in school and this year we are supporting MIND, the mental health charity and also Latch, the children’s cancer fundraising organisation, based in Cardiff. All money raised from jumpers etc will be split between these two charities.

We break up on Friday and school resumes on Monday 8th January.

The Eco Team are running a competition in each class for the highest number of cards collected after Christmas for recycling because we are taking part in the Newport Wastesavers competition. Please count your cards and put them in a carrier bag labelled with the number of cards. The last day for collection is Wednesday 17th January.

Mrs Kidd and Mrs Martin’s school fund draw tickets will be on sale every break time at 50p a strip and they will be drawn on Friday.

This week is another roll over

Finally, I’d like to thank you for all of your very strong support for your children, the school and its activities over the past term. It really does make a difference!

I’d like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a peaceful and happy new year!

Yours sincerely,

H L Vaughan
