Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for supporting Comic Relief. We raised £286.55. Special thanks to Mrs Kidd, Mrs Martin and Miss Murphy who did a Dance Along session in the hall for everyone.

Apologies to our Year 6 Bard, Gabriella Richards for spelling her name wrongly last week. Sorry Gabby! 😊

I’m very pleased to say that Miss Lucas has taken over as the class teacher in Class 1H from Monday and Mr Moylan joins us as the class teacher in Class 3/4B. Both of them have previously done supply in our school so I welcome them to our team. I’m sure that they will settle in quickly!

The visits to Waterstones are going extremely well! A huge thank you to all the parents who are helping accompany children on these visits. By doing this, you are helping every child in the school to have their free World Book Day book.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day making sessions with Mrs Couch and Mrs Parkinson are continuing well.  For a price of either £2.00 or £2.50 (to include a gift bag), children can put their name down for a special craft activity to make a present for Mother’s Day on Sunday 31st March.

We also plan to hold a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea on Friday 29th March and a separate letter will be coming to you about that from the Friends of St Woolos.

I’m very grateful to staff and Mrs Begum who have offered to help us with that event and if you think that you would like to help in any way, please let us know. Any help is welcome, even if you’d like to bring a friend with you to help. We hope to raise more money towards another Chromebook by running this event.

Inspire Fitness

Please note there will be no Inspire Fitness Training this Tuesday as Miss Murphy is not here. It will be back on as usual next Tuesday.

Attendance

The class of the month with an attendance rate of 95.7% is 5M (Mrs Morton).  Our school total currently stands at 93.7 % and our target is 94%.

Please can you make sure that your child’s Parentpay account is credited before your child orders a meal. All outstanding dinner money should be paid off immediately. Please make an appointment to come in and see me if you have any issues.

National Tests

The National Tests in Literacy and Numeracy will take place from Tuesday 7th May until Tuesday 14th May.

Please note that no holiday will be authorised for the month of April leading up to these tests.

Parent Governor

All parents should have received a nomination form for the post of Parent Governor from their child last week. The closing date is on Wednesday 27th March at 12.00pm.

If you would like to talk to me or one of our Parent Governors, (Mr D Phillips and Mr A Guest) please contact the main office.

Pupil Charity Fundraising

Well done to Leon Smith in Class 6W!

For the past three years Leon has been growing his hair to have it cut to raise funds for the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children and young people who lose their hair as a result of medical treatment.

His hair was cut last week and he is currently collecting sponsorship. We have a form in school but if you would like to donate online, you are able to at:

Future Dates

  • Our final INSET day of the year will be on Thursday 4th April, when the school will be used a polling station for the bi-election in Newport West.

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
