Dear Parent,
Thank you very much for helping to Support Children in Need last Friday! We have raised a total of £263.46. Well done to School Council for helping with this also.
James Doyle-Roberts from Citrus Arts worked with Year 1/2 children today helping them to learn their routine for performance at the Newport County v Morecombe match on Saturday 10th December. He will also be working with them on Wednesday.
Tombola Tuesday means that your child can wear their own clothes from home in exchange for bringing in any of the following items for the Tombola at our on Friday:
- Bubble Bath/Shower Gel
- Bar of chocolate/Sweets
- Felt pens, pencils etc
- Tin or packet of food
On Wednesday, there is a very special event in the GEMS Reading Café which will start at 2.00pm this week. Staff from the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff will join the Reading Café this week to come in to do an art activity with parents and children based on the story, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’.
The last ‘Helping Your Child with a Year 5/6 Maths’ course takes place on Thursday from 9.00-11.00am. Your child will be able to join you for the last part of this session to do some of the activities that you have made. This will be a lovely session to end with.
We plan to run more courses after half term but if you think a particular course will be helpful, please let me know.
On Thursday after school, the Football Team are playing in match against St Michael’s RC Primary School and it will take place between 3.30-4.30pm at Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre. Parents are very welcome to support us.
The Morning and Afternoon Nursery classes are visiting Belle Vue Park at 10.00am on Friday morning, ready to meet Father Christmas. (There will be no Afternoon Nursery.)
Our Christmas Fayre takes place on Friday 25th November at 3.45pm. The Grand Draw will be at 4.45pm and tickets will be on sale all of this week at breaktime at 50p a strip.
If you could help with sending in samosas, cakes or pakoras in on Friday, that would be a great help!
Thanks you very much for items that you have sent in for the Cups of Fun! Thank you also to parents and staff who have donated raffle prizes for us. Two of the Draw prizes are food hampers made up of items donated by every member of staff and every year these are two of our major prizes. In addition we have prizes from local businesses.
Thank you to The Friends of St Woolos who have delivered letters to local businesses asking for donations of these raffle prizes. We are also hosting some craft stalls in the Fayre and these stall holders will pay us for their table.
Thank you also to parents who have volunteered to help us this week, either for a morning or afternoon or by running a stall at the Fayre. If you are able to help, but haven’t had the chance to let us know, please contact either Mrs Kidd or Mrs Martin in the office. You don’t need to have had any experience of doing this before. It is always very helpful if we have as many parents or grandparents.
Most of the stalls are run by staff and they can’t get to the hall until all of the children are collected, so, once you have collected your child, please join the queue at the front of the school by the main entrance. Mr Brock, our caretaker, will be at the front to help you. Once all the stalls are ready, we will open the Fayre and this will be at 3.45pm.
(Any child not collected in time at the ned of the day will be taken to the Nursery to be supervised.)
Father Christmas will be in his grotto in the room on the staircase by the canteen.
Your child has brought home a poster with them today. Please let them colour it and then, if you are able to, either put it up in your window or ask for it to go in a shop or business near you.
There is no Homework Club on Friday.
Reception Admissions
I hope that you found last weeks’ Admissions Sessions helpful. The closing date for applications for Reception 2017 is the 13th January. It is very important that you get your application in for on time because, for several years, we have had more applications that there are places available and it is very possible that late applications might be refused.
Admission Forms can be found at www.newport.gov.uk
Roberts Estate Agent’s Competition
