Dear Parent/Carer,
Today eighteen children were trained to be Playmakers by Lauren Boyd from Newport Live. These children were successful in applying to be Playmakers and were interviewed by the School Council and Laura before being selected. This is the first time that we have trained children to be Playmakers and their role will be to engage with children throughout the school to help them play a range of games and activities.
It is Holocaust Memorial Day on Wednesday and Mrs Couch and I will be taking Captains and House Captains to Newport (St Woolos) Cathedral for the annual Holocaust Memorial Service. It starts at 11.00am. If you would like to go there will be few spare places but it is advisable to arrive early.
Wednesday is an exciting day in general for Key Stage Two pupils because we have the launch of our new Science project with Science Cymru. We will be joined by Emma Wride who will be talking to all of the pupils. Our Science project is a part of a successful cluster project that all of the schools in The John Frost School cluster have been working together on and it has had a tremendous impact on the Science work that all the schools have done over the past year and a half.
Clubs continue as normal this week.
Christmas Card Competition
Thank you for sending in cards to be recycled for our Christmas Card Competition. This year we collected 6991 Cards which is more than last year’s total of 4682 we’ll let you know the results when we have them.
We are also continuing to recycle batteries and ink cartidges.
Dinner Money
Please can I ask all parents to clear any outstanding debt on their Parentpay/Paypoint account by the end of this week – even if the balance outstanding is a small amount (5p, 10p etc).
The office staff are spending too much time chasing up parents and asking them constantly to clear outstanding debts.
If you are ordering a meal for your child, then you need to credit your child’s account BEFORE you order it. The cost of a school meal is £ 2.10.
From next week, if your child’s account is not in credit then you may receive a phone call asking you to bring in a packed lunch for them.
Please work with us in this matter. The funds are paid to the catering company (not the school) and need to be settled promptly.
Attendance
Our attendence is currently running at 93.2 %. Please remember to let us know first thing in the morning if your child is ill because, for safety’s sake, we run a First Day Response system and will folllow up promptly on any unexplained absences.
The class with the highest attendance last week was Class 5/6P.
Parking issues
Parents have raised concerns about the dangers with the amount of traffic at the back of the school. Some children are having to cross between parked cars at the beginning and end of the day, so please be aware of this and take care, especially when reversing.
Bonus Ball
There is a rollover this week.
Yours sincerely,
H L Vaughan
