Dear Parent/Guardian,
I hope that you all had a lovely Easter.
Thank you and well done to Class 5/6W for doing such a lovely Class Assembly about the Easter Story.
Our Easter Raffle raised £139.46. Thank you to parents and staff for their donations of chocolate items for the draw and for supporting this.
Congratulations to our two Early Bird winners for the last half term, who were Mustafa Aksoy and Kieran Davies! They each receive a £5.00 giftcard from WH Smith. Well done also to all the other children who received a fridge magnet for full and punctual attendance for the whole of the half term!
All clubs resume this week.
Tomorrow afternoon, Classes 5/6W ad 5/6 P have been invited to the Newport County ground at Rodney Parade to have a training session and meet the trustees of the ‘County In The Community’ project, which provides the football sessions that pupils receive. This is a lovely honour for the classes and I am sure that they will have a great time.
Our Foundation Phase Reading Extravaganza- Part 2 takes place on Wednesday afternoon from 2.00pm. (Foundation Phase parents have already had a note about this but this is a gentle reminder.)
You will be able to make some things with your child, have a go at playing some games and also get lots of ideas about different wayas to help your child with their reading. Some parent volunteers have already helped with making some resources that you will be able to take home and there is a free gift for everyone. All refreshments are free also.
We had tremendous support for our first Reading Extravaganza and so I hope that lots of you will be able to join us for this next one!
(Junior parents- we are planning a reading event later in the term for you.)
Singing group rehearsals for the Operasonic performance at the Riverfront Theatre on Sunday 2nd July continue after school on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning Class 5/6W will be visiting Tesco for a ‘Farm to Fork’ experience.
Class 1/2MS have their Class Assembly on Friday at 9.15am. You are welcome to attend this.
There is no school on Monday 1st May because it is a Bank Holiday.
Mathletics
The Mathletics trial was really successful so this is just a reminder that we have paid for Mathletics for your child and it is available for you to use at home. If you have forgotten the log-in details, please ask your child’s class teacher.
Attendance
Our attendance is currently 94.3% and this is good news because it that means that we are reaching our target of 94% at the moment. However, it is very important that we do not let this total fall.
Thank you for continuing to helping to improve our school attendance.
National Tests and Teacher Assessments
No holidays will be authorised from now until 26th May because of National Testing and Teacher Assessments.
The National Tests take place next week from Wednesday 3rd May until Tuesday 9th
May. All children from Y2 upwards will be taking the tests. The approach that we have in school is to be balanced about the process and ensure that children do not become anxious. Like you, we want them to do their best, but we do not want them to worry. The tests form just a one-day snapshot of a child’s performance throughout the year and are only a part of the overall continuous assessment that teachers do.
You can help by ensuring that your child has a good night’s sleep before the tests and comes to school in the morning with a good breakfast and on time. I know that several of you have taken the opportunity to discuss the tests with your child’s class teacher or with Mrs Couch, at Parental Consultations, or have come to the special meetings but if there is anything else that you want to know, please ask your child’s class teacher. A separate letter will come out about the tests tomorrow.
Dates
There is a Bank Holiday on Monday 1st May.
Our next INSET day will be taken on the Council Election Day on Thursday 4th May.
We will also take an INSET day on Thursday 8th June, which has been confirmed as a General Election day.
The Summer Diary Dates sheet and Class Topic Letters will come out next Tuesday.
Bonus Ball
There is another rollover this week!
Yours sincerely,
H Vaughan
