Dear Parent,
I’m passing on the grateful thanks of Mehtab’s family for the warm words of comfort and kind thoughts that they have received during the past few days. (This follows on from my special letter last Thursday.)
We will be having a special assembly on Friday morning to celebrate Mehtab’s life and share memories of him.
The School Council asked if we could include in that a minute’s silence and they have also written a special prayer. This will be a special time to remember such a lovely member of our school family and I hope that you will be able to keep Mehtab’s family in your thoughts on Friday morning.
The John Frost High School
We are so pleased to have the strong links that we do with the John Frost School, and last Tuesday, Year 6 pupils had a transition visit there to do an art activity. The children really enjoyed themselves and also impressed staff there with their behaviour and attitude. Well done Year 6!
This Week
This is another very busy week! Tomorrow, Year 5 and 6 pupils will be visiting the Senedd, in Cardiff Bay. As well as having a tour around the building, children will be met by our Senedd Member Jayne Bryant and will also be able to later watch the First Minister’s Question Time from the viewing gallery. This promises to be the most involved Senedd visit we have ever had and we’re looking forward to it.
On Wednesday is our Eid Assembly taken by children in year 3/4 classes. It starts at 9.15am and parents/carers of children in those classes are invited to come and join us.
In the afternoon we will have our Eid parties. Children have been asked to bring a small plate of food to eat in the afternoon.
Children can wear their new Eid clothes, their best clothes or national costume from their country. (There is no need to bring money in for this.)
Newport Live will also be visiting the Nursery on Wednesday for a Fundamental Movement session.
The Pantry will be open from 3.15-3.45pm on Thursday. Please remember to bring your tokens with you.
On Friday, as well as our special assembly, we are having a Casual Day, again suggested by the School Council, to raise funds for LATCH, the children’s cancer charity, who are supporting Mehtab’s family. Children can wear their own clothes and can bring in a donation of 50p if they are able to. (If you can’t manage a donation at the moment, don’t worry- just send your child in, in their own clothes anyway.)
A representative from LATCH will be with us at the assembly and we have some items that we will donate to them donate for the family room on the children’s ward.
We will also be holding a Women in Science and Technology Day on Friday and children will be able to find out more about the roles open to everyone in this area. The Digital Leaders will be taking the assembly next Wednesday and will tell us more then.
Eco Tip
‘When making lunch for children to bring to school, use reusable lunchboxes and avoid using lots of foil or clingfilm. Try to opt for more environmentally friendly wrapping materials like beeswax.’
The Coronation of King Charles III
Next week we will all have a Coronation Week in school where we learn about lots of historical aspects about the Coronation of King Charles III.
We will be holding a concert on Thursday 4 th May and a Coronation Party on Friday 5th May.
Dates
School and Nursery are closed on Monday 1st May for a bank holiday.
School and Nursery will also be closed on Monday 8th May for a special Coronation bank holiday.
INSET Day – Friday 19th May (Schools have been granted an additional day by the Welsh Government, and this is the last one of the school year.)
I hope that your week goes well and that you have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
Very kind regards,
H L Vaughan
