Dear Parent,

Thank you for supporting our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Enterprise Sale last week. Children worked really hard, made really lovely items to sell and have been busy working out their gross profit so that they can buy items for their class room. It was great that so many of you joined us in supporting them!

I hope that our Community Giveaway on Friday was helpful for you. Quite a few people popped in and a number of items were taken away so that helped us as well.  Thank you also for the donations that you gave us- they added up to £ 17.19

The Pantomime on Friday was Cinderella and it was great!

Thank you very much to The Friends of St Woolos Primary, whose fundraising helps to pay for this Pantomime.

We have several STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) visits this week.

Last week’s visit by the STEM ambassador Ray Cassar was postponed because of illness so he joined us today in Key Stage Two classes. He was helped by a group of STEM Superstars from Year 6.

Reception children posted letters to Father Christmas today!

Tomorrow is Tombola Tuesday and in exchange for wearing casual clothes, we’d love it if children could bring in the following items for our Fayre on Friday:

Class 6W, Class 5/6M and Class 5P – Tins/Foodstuffs/Biscuits – for the Tombola

Class 4P, 3/4B and Class 3J – Toiletries (shower/bath gel etc) – for the Tombola

Class 2S, Class 1/2D, Class 1DJ– Wrapped Sweets/Chocolate Bars/Lollies – for the ‘Bags of fun’

Class RDA and Class RH – Pencils/Pens/Small toys – for the ‘Bags of fun’

Nursery – Bought or homemade cakes for the cake stall (These can be brought in on Friday Morning).

We have another STEM visit on Tuesday when Class 4P are visited by Allan Hyland, a physicist who will be talking about Space.

We have our annual visit to Nant Coch Church on Wednesday when children in Year 3 will be visiting for a ‘Y Christmas?’ activity morning.

On Thursday, Allan Hyland will be joining us again for a series of visits to Year 5/6 classes to do some floating and sinking activities.

Our Christmas Fayre is on Friday 29th November from 3.45-5.00pm. I’m really pleased to say that Father Christmas will also be joining us and you can pay on the day to Santa’s helper – £1.50 per child or £2.00 for two siblings. Raffle tickets will be on sale very day at breaktime and they are priced at 50p a strip.

Thank you very much to parents who have delivered raffle and sponsor letters and also to staff and friends who have donated items for our Prize Draw.

Juniors in classes 4P and 5/6M will be dismissed from the lower Infant entrance door on Stow Hill at the end of the day on Friday, instead of the main door. They will come out just after the Y1/2 classes. This will help to ease congestion by the main door.

Once you have collected your child, please line up at the front main entrance. We cannot let parents in until all children have been collected and staff have been able to get to the hall. This is because we need staff to run the stall with the parents. Mr Brock will be there to help you and open the door once we are ready.

If any child is not collected on time, they will be taken to the office for safety and will need to be collected from there.

If you have already offered to help us with the Fayre – thank you!

Your support really helps to make a difference for us.

Attendance

Well done to the following classes who had attendance which was over 94%:
Class RH, 3J, 4P and 5P.

High School Applications – Closing date 27th November

If your child is in Year 6 then you should have completed a High School Application for them. If you haven’t completed a form, then you need to do so by 27th November.

The General Election and Year 3/4 Concert

This is a reminder that the school will be used as a Polling Station on Thursday 12th December that day and, in order to ensure the safety of pupils in the school, we will have to close the Nursery and Reception classes for that day. All other classes will remain open.

Concerts

Our Christmas performances take place on the following days:

Weds 4th Dec      Year 1/2 classes    10.00am

Fri 6th Dec            Reception              10.00am

Wed 11th Dec     Nursery                     10.00am

Fri 13th Dec          Year 3/4 classes   10.00am/2.00pm

Tues 17th Dec      Year 5/6 classes    2.00pm

Please remember that no child under Nursery age is permitted to attend the concerts. This is to ensure that your child can have a fair chance of performing without being disturbed by other babies or toddlers.

If you have no-one to babysit, there will be an opportunity for you to attend a dress rehearsal the day before the concert, where there will be several staff free to show you to another room if your baby cries.

Please see your child’s class teacher to ask about this if you need to.

Wrap up Newport

Please don’t forget that we are collecting coats for the homeless as part of our support for Help The Homeless, Newport. The collecting box is in the entrance, near the office.

Yours sincerely,
