Dear Parent,
What a fantastic Fayre on Friday! Thank you very much for attending, helping or supporting us with donations. We raised a gross total of £1261.75 which is tremendous!
We have already covered most of the cost of children’s Christmas activities with money from The Friends of St Woolos, so this money raised will also support IT development in the school. After Christmas, I will let you know an assembly date when you can come in and see what we’ve used the money for.
Our child and parent workshop took place after school today for anyone wanting to work on their Roberts Estate Agency’s Dream House competition entry. The closing date is Wednesday 30th November.
The Football Team played excellently in their mini tournament against St Michael’s last week! The final score was 10-6 but the last few goals were only conceded in the last few games. Ben Davies, our Football Coach, will let us know Man of the Match on Tuesday. I think that they all played really well and I’m glad that I don’t have to make that decision!
James Doyle-Roberts from Citrus Arts and writer Philip Michell worked with Year 1/2 children today again and they are learning their routine really well! I hope that lots of you will be able to support them at the Newport County v. Morecombe match on Saturday 10th December.
Year 3 pupils are visiting Nant Coch Church on Wednesday morning for a White Christmas activity session and this should be really good.
Also on Wednesday morning, parents and pupils who have been joining the GEMS Reading Café are visiting the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff to see The Emperor’s New Clothes. Thank you to ‘Sherman 5’ who have funded this lovely visit.
The Year 1/2 Concert ‘Lights, Camel, Action: It’s Strictly the Nativity’ takes place on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm.
Please note that you will need your ticket to ensure entry. No children under Nursery age are permitted for our performances. This helps to ensure that your child is not disturbed while they are taking part and can be heard.
Your support for this over recent years has been really positive and I appreciate that.
If you absolutely have no-one to look after your child because you are new to the area and your partner is working, a limited number of single spaces are available at the dress rehearsal on Tuesday. (You will need your ticket for this.) Please see Miss Spray (Foundation Phase Leader) about this. You will still be asked to take your child out of the hall though if they cry and disturb the children’s acting.
At Wednesday’s concert we will be joined by Sian Roderick, a BBC producer, and a cameraman, and they will be filming part of our concert. This is because we are taking part in filming for a BBC documentary into modern Wales which will come out in the Spring of 2017. They will also be visiting at different times later. (Year 1/2 parents have been sent a separate permission letter about this.)
Class 3/4M have been without an interactive whiteboard for a while but I’m really pleased to say that on Thursday a new interactive touchscreen board will be installed. It is a Comcen ‘CTouch Laser Air+’ which is an extremely up to date model and we are the first school in Newport to have one. (We have added the cost of this board to the upgrade of our network to STEP 6 which will take place after Christmas so it is paid for by the school and not fundraising. The board also has a seven year guarantee.) We are gradually replacing our older boards so, over the next few years, more of these will be installed.
The Reception Nativity ‘Whoops-a-Daisy Angel’ takes place on Friday at 2.00pm. The same arrangement about babies and toddlers applies.
Children are working very hard on their performances and I know that you will really enjoy them.
At each concert there will be a lucky ticket draw.
Please remember that you will need a ticket for every concert except the Nursery one.
On Saturday, the choir are taking part in a concert at St Woolos Cathedral joining the Cathedral Choristers, Newport Philharmonic Orchestra and soprano Lucy Jones. The concert is to raise funds for the Cwtch Arts Centre at the Handpost and the Newport Night Shelter which takes place in December and January each year. The concert starts at 7.00pm and tickets are available at the reduced price of £6.00 from Miss Watkins.
