Dear Parent or Carer,
I hope that you’ve had a lovely week.
Following on from my Schoop about the inspection, just before we broke up, I wanted to reiterate how proud we all were of the children and the way that they conducted themselves throughout the week! 😉
They really were a credit to you. We also appreciated you completing the questionnaires and attending the parent meeting. Your support really helped the inspectors see how very strong our school community is. Thank you.
On a personal note I’d like to thank staff (teaching, non-teaching, breakfast and lunch supervisors, caretaker and office) for their hard work and say how very proud I am of them! I’d also like to thank our Governors who have worked really hard with the school to provide informed challenge and to support everyone so well and impartially.
The final report will be published at the beginning of the summer holidays and I’ll share it with you, once I receive it.
This Week
This week is our STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and children will be doing different activities this week, linked to it.
Gwent Dragons Rugby took place this morning for Class 3/4MP.
Tomorrow we have our termly Internet Safety Day and all classes will be thinking about staying safe online. PC Karen Hartshorn will be visiting Year 6 tomorrow to talk to them about this.
Also tomorrow, Year 1 pupils will be visiting Noah’s Ark Farm Park. The weather forecast is good so this should be a great trip.
Thursday is a busy day for several reasons. Subject to permission being granted by Newport City Council, we will be visited by the BBC newsreader Lucy Owen, who will be formally opening our library. We’re really thrilled that she has been able to make time in her schedule to join us for this. Lucy Owen has also written a children’s book and after the library opening will be speaking to some children to get some comments for her new podcast which is about children’s books.
Also on Thursday, children in Year 5 and 6 will be visiting Newport Cathedral to see a play about Bishop Morgan (1545-1604), who translated the first version of the Bible into Welsh.
Thursday is also our Maths Day and classes will be thinking about lots of fun with number.
Later on in the afternoon, from 2.30-4.00pm, you are welcome to come into school to join your child to play amaths game with them. Mrs Couch will be in school for this activity and will also be making some maths games with parents. I hope that you can join us for this.
Miss Wall’s Netball Club will run after school this Thursday.
Next Week
Mrs Couch will be starting our after school Library Drop-In session next Monday from 3.15-4.00pm. Please come along with your child and have a look and help them to choose a book. Our new electronic library borrowing system mans that we can easily check out books for all of our families.
