Dear Parent/Carer,
Well done to Class RD for such a great assembly all about their learning this year. Thank you for supporting this so well! It was lovely to see so many parents and family members joining us for this assembly! Thank you.
Thank you also for such a great turn out for our Family Learning sessions for school and nursery parents last week and also for our STEM afternoon on Friday! This is the first time that we have run such an event and the children had a great time making their sunglasses and testing them with a UV torch.
Value Added ipad training are joining us this week again to work in the following classes:
- Class 3P and Class 3/4B on Monday
- Class 2S and Class 1/2D on Wednesday
- Classes 1H, RD and RS on Thursday.
This evening, a group of pupils are visiting the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran to give a presentation to The St Woolos Rotary Club about the Intergenerational Dementia Friendly Project that they have been doing with the Sycamore Ward at St Woolos Hospital. Every year we are invited to join St Wools Rotary Club for a pupil presentation and this is always a lovely opportunity for our pupils. This year in particular, the Rotary Club are very keen to hear more because they are supporting Dementia awareness charities at the moment.
Tomorrow, Year 4 pupils are attending the John Frost School for a Cluster Olympics Day. This is part of our transition plan to help children find out more about life in The John Frost School.
Also tomorrow, Newport Tennis Development Team are running a series of mini Tennis Coaching Sessions with pupils from Reception to Year 3.
On Wednesday Reception pupils are going to the Eden Centre in Aberbeeg and Nursery pupils and parents are going to Victoria Park in Cardiff for the day.
The New Reception Intake Meeting for parents is on Wednesday in the school hall at 6.00pm. Parents have already had a letter about this but please remember that if you are coming, this meeting is for parents only and not children.
We are taking part in cluster ‘Coding Meet-up’ at The John Frost school on Thursday and will be taking four pupils to that.
There is also a Multi-Skills Festival at The John Frost School on Thursday which we are taking part in.
On Friday we are holding our Certificate Assembly at 9.30am for membership of club during the year. Parents may attend but it is quite a long assembly. Please let the office know if you would like to attend.
Our Open Afternoon is on Friday from 2.30 to 5.00pm. Please join us if you can to share your child’s books with them and find out about their learning. Joining us will be a representative from the Community Library, the Cwtsh on Stow Hill and also a member of the ‘Designed to Smile’ Dental Healthcare Team for you to meet.
Our Leavers’ Disco is on Friday from 6.00 to 7.15pm. Year 6 will have free admission. If any Year 3/4/5 children would like to attend, then they can buy a ticket for £1.00 from the office at break time this week. If any parents would like to help with the disco, please contact the office on 265792.
Year 4 Road Safety Research
If you would like your child to take part in the Year 4 research project with Dr Purcell from Cardiff University, please return the form you were given by Wednesday at the latest. This research follows on from the research project work that we previously took part in which led to the development of an innovative road safety app that it now available on the app store.
Attendance and Appointments
Please ensure that if you are requesting that your child leaves school early for a dental appointment, you show your appointment card at the office. This is because there have been a few occasions recently where requests for children to leave have been made to the office which have turned out to be inaccurate.
Your child is expected to attend school all day.
Also, please do not ring the school at the last minute in the afternoon with a message about collection. Mrs Martin and Mrs Kidd cannot be expected to carry messages all afternoon and this is what is starting to happen because a small group of parents are failing to make suitable collection arrangements for their child and are constantly ringing the office in the afternoon.
We would really appreciate your help with this because they are both extremely busy and can’t do their job if they are carrying messages all the time. Please make changes of collection arrangements first thing and let a member of staff know at the gate when your child comes in to school.
Breakfast Club
Funding for the full Breakfast Club session has been partially withdrawn and we are looking at ways of maintaining the system we currently provide if we can at no extra cost to the school. Please complete the form below and return to your child’s class teacher by Friday so that we can determine the need for the service.
Future Dates
Tuesday 16th July- 9.30am- Leavers’ Service
Wednesday 17th July – 9.30am – Retirement Assembly – Some spaces available. Contact the office.

Yours sincerely,
