Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for returning the Contact Details cards. The pupils who won the draws were Leonardi Nica (Lower School R-2) and Andrew Vu (Upper School Y3-6). They both won a £5.00 gift card.

Our recent charity events raised £139.24 for Jeans for Genes and £41.61 for Macmillan. Thank you for supporting us with these. 😊

Dragon Rugby took place again today with Class 1/2J. Well done to Mitra Rathinasamy who won a Dragons’ Homework Challenge last week and again this week!

Our ‘Bring a Tin’ Day for Harvest Festival is tomorrow. All food that is donated will be given to the Raven House Trust, a registered foodbank based at Stow Park Church. If you can’t donate anything at this time though, please don’t worry. (This is not a casual day. Children will need to wear school uniform.)

Tomorrow is also World Mental Health Day and the theme, which we will be thinking about in school, is ‘Mental health is a universal right’.

Our Harvest Festival is on Wednesday and every class will be performing an item. Children have been busy practising their songs and poems and we’re looking forward to listening to them.

We will have a few seats available for parents to watch, on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so please ring the office tomorrow by 11.00am tomorrow if you’d like to be considered for a seat. The service starts at 9.15am.

The Stow Hill Pantry is changing days to a Wednesday 3.15-3.45pm from this week onwards so that more staff are available to cover. This is a crisis service run by the school, supported by Newport Cathedral and funded via a short term grant from GAVO (Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations). Our aim is to support you in an emergency or help you while you are making an application to an official food bank such at that run at Stow Park Church Centre by the Raven House Trust. If you have an urgent need at any time during the week, please contact the school at any time.

Continuing our focus on Family Learning, on Thursday, Mrs Couch will be running her fourth session this term which is entitled ‘Years 3 to 6 – Have Fun With Spelling’ from 9.00-10.30am. We’ll be serving refreshments and you will also get the chance to work with your child in the last part of the session.

Well done to those children and parents who worked so well on the Family Learning Number Detective activities in the summer holidays and have returned their detective notebooks. Both they and their parents, did amazing number activities. 😊

Parental Consultations

Thank you if you’ve already booked for our Parental Consultations, which take place on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th October for all children from Reception to Year 6, and also on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th November for all Nursery children.

Places are going quickly so please ensure that you have booked your appointments by this Friday, which is the closing date.

As in previous years, during the evening consultations, we will be running a children’s film in the Nursery, if you have no available child care.

Flu Immunisation

If you haven’t yet registered your child for the flu immunization programme, please use the QR code that was recently sent to you on Schoop.

Thank You

I’d like to give my very warmest thanks to Mr and Mrs Ottery, parents of a well-loved and remembered past pupil, Alfie Ottery, who passed away last July, aged 19. They recently donated a large set of games and equipment for playtimes and today a friendship bench, donated by them to the school in Alfie’s memory, was shown to the children in assembly and then put into the infant yard. This bench will serve as a lovely reminder of Alfie’s time with us in school, especially since he was such a good friend to all.

Next Week

The final Family Learning session takes place on Thursday 19th October, and is ‘Y1-2 Keyword Fun’. You’re welcome to join, even if you haven’t attended any previous sessions.

Very kind regards,

Heather Vaughan
